Guest Tony n Terrific
The news comes a day after GM (GMGMQ) filed for bankruptcy in New York. The company did not identify the buyer nor name a price, saying only that the deal would close by the end of September. But a source identified the buyer as Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd. in China. Dongfeng Yeah - now they can keep the copyright infringement within a single country! Check out the GM's Junk Heap link on that page Hummer owners must be spinning in their (rolling) coffins! Check out the GM's Junk Heap link on that page Hummer owners must be spinning in their (rolling) coffins! Two issues with the Vega listed at your link are: Photo is of a highly modified car, for drag racing, a popular thing to do with the Vega, beef it up and drop a V-8 into it, makes for a scary FAST car. Motor problem is attributed to early technology, when it reached 1977, the motor was perfected with the "Dura-Max" motor. Unfortunately too little too late. http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2009/autos/...lem_cars/2.html My collector car is a rare "Cosworth" model of the Vega, this car was hand picked and removed from the production line and then hand assembled in a different part of the plant, installing the special Twin-Cam electronic fuel injected all aluminum 2.0 liter 4. The Cosworth motor was hand built in Tonawanda, and never had the heat shear problems of the normal production motor. Edited June 2, 2009 by dnoblett (see edit history) Link to comment
Stepbrow
Just to add a little sarcasm: The Hummers for our soldiers and marines in Iraq and Afganistan only have to be shipped a short distance from China instead of all the way from the US. Link to comment

Guest ShaQuaNew
In watching Chinese news this morning, they are not confirming that any Chinese company bought Hummer. They are reporting that it is a secret who bought it. Of course, the US news report confirms: NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors Corp. has struck a deal to sell its Hummer truck unit to a Chinese industrial business, the two companies confirmed Tuesday. Privately owned Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd., based in China, will acquire the truck brand, which has been part of GM since 1999. Tengzhong said it plans to keep Hummer's management team. Link to comment
Daviation
The Yahoo news report claims 3000 jobs saved in US. However, it only states those jobs will remain here until 2011. Is that long enough for the <....> to claim he saved those jobs? Let's not get too carried away with slandering the president. Edited June 3, 2009 by donahso (see edit history) Link to comment

Guest Tony n Terrific
China's Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery says it has no plans to make General Motors' Hummer vehicles in China. Rather than setting up a plant in China, Tengzhong will use the current facilities including their employees in the United States. In the Hummer deal, Tengzhong plans to retain its management, operational team and 3,000 of its employees, Xinhua said. The company also will assume existing Hummer dealer agreements. Link to comment
