 she's so cute. She told me today she loves our government because they are so sweet.

I was like what!? your crazy hunny.

She then proceeded to tell me they call her sweet names when ever they send her email or papers.

confused? yeah me too.

Its because of the "Dear, Yaoyao" stuff at begging of our letters she thinks they are calling her sweet names

Now, 'Southern' is a bit different :secret:

It's perfectly acceptable to be addressed as :

Sugah,

Sweetie Pie

Hon

Honey

Sugar Buns (a bit rare these days)

by a female stranger . They're just being polite. It's just a simple politeness - nothing untoward implied... There are regional differences, even in the south.

Perhaps ol HakkaMike or NewDay2006 can give up some more examples?

When I call to remind a veteran for an appointment and I get a wife/girlfriend or a female vet, I get a lot of "thanks" or "you got it" followed by "hun," "sweetie" or "babe". I also get the occasional "honey chile."
