GOING BACK TO NANNING....AND MAYBE BEIJING

Recommended Posts

Hey all.....I am going to see Xiaorong on June 1st and am staying for 3 months. We are thinking about making a trip together to Beijing and see all the sites. She has never been there and I have always wanted to go. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good hotel to stay in? I would like to find one $50 or less a night, but is also fairly close to some of the main attractions there.

Would appreciate any suggestions. :P

When I went to see yan a few years ago she made the hotel reservations. It seems that she found some good deals on the web and "she further talked her way to more discounts". There has been a hotel building boom in Beijing the last few years. This with the slow economy deals are to be made. She could talk to a travel agent and find out more ideas. She always had travel agents buy the airline tickets for her and they would have further information about good hotel deals in Bejing. Be aware that some hotels that are lower priced still do not take credit cards. At least when we were there.

There is a wonderful hotel near the attractions, that has an old-style courtyard in the older neighborhoods. It's close to the Olympic Village and the Forbidden City. In my view, it was much nicer to stay in this hotel, than the grand high-rises that predominate the landscape.

It's called:

The Best Hotel

My wife in in the US right now, and when she wakes up, I will get the details for you.

We stayed at the Chongwenmen, which is at the Chongwenmen gate (southeast corner) of Ring Road #2, and practically within walking distance (a couple of miles) of the Tianamen Square.

Here is the link to the hotel with the courtyard. I posted a pic earlier. By the way, it's very romantic, and provides you the opportunity to be amongst the old style buildings and neighborhoods in Beijing (¡° Hu Tong ¡±):

Wow, I was going to recommend The Friendship Hotel.

But, now that I see Jesse's post, I'd check out The Best Hotel first. Especially being in old Beijing and all...

Still The Friendship is quite nice. :)

My lovely wife found that place before we made the trip to Beijing a few weeks ago. I have to say, it's was one of the best hotel experiences I ever had.

I've stayed at Super 8 in Dong Si twice. You can get a small but ok room for less than 200 RMB a night. Breakfast is 10 RMB per person per day, but there are some small restaurants a 60 second walk away that are much better. It is located back a hutong alley, so they're right there if you want to see them.

It's a 20 - 30 minute walk to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. 5 - 10 minute walk to the Dong Si subway station, and a supermarket.

Looks great! I think this type of hotel would be more fun than a typical high rise. I stayed in the Beijing Novatel. It was nice but I think the experience was not as authentic as a small hotel.

Besides hitting all the major tourist attractions in Beijing, don't miss the Summer Place (very romantic) or the :plane: Military Museum (lots of old planes, missles and guy stuff) :plane: .
