I have a problem, my wife thinks I must eat fruit, well, I hate it! I don't like it in any shape or form. I lied, I do like oranges, but everything else is a big NO WAY! My dog eats more fruit than I do. She just does not understand that when I tell her I hate it, I mean I hate it. She tells me to try it and you need to eat it. Well again I don't like it and I don't want it. Anyone else have this issue?

Well if you hate fruit, don't think you can do much about that, but she is right.

Fruits have highly beneficial natural effect on the human system. The main physiological actions of fruits are as follows:

Hydrating Effect - Taking of fruits or fruit juice is the most pleasant way of hydrating the organism. The water absorbed by sick persons in this manner has an added advantage of supplying sugar and minerals at the same time.

Diuretic Effect - Clinical observations have shown that potassium, magnesium and sodium contents of the fruit act as a diuretic and dieresis - frequency of urination is considerably increased when fruits and fruit juices are taken. They lower the urine density and thereby accelerate the elimination of nitrogenous waste and chlorides. As, however, fruits contain a very low level of sodium, they make a valuable contribution to a salt-free diet.

Alkalinizing Effect - The organic acids of the salts in fruits produce alkaline carbonates, when transformed within the organism, which alkalize the fluids. All fruits promote intestinal elimination. This keeps the body free from toxic wastes which creep into the blood from an overloaded, sluggish intestinal tract. The carbohydrates of fruits are chiefly in the form of sugar, dextrin and acids which are easily digestible and are completely absorbed. Hence, they are very useful for sick and invalids for quick energy and heat.

Mineralizing Effect - Fruits furnish minerals to the body. Dried fruits such as apricots, raisins and dates are rich in calcium and iron. These minerals are essential for strong bones and good blood respectively. Some fruits, like custard apple, furnish calcium to the extent of 800 mg. per fruit, which is sufficient to meet our daily requirement of this mineral.

Laxative Effect - The fibrous matter in fruits, cellulose, aids in the smooth passage of the food in the digestive tract and easy bowel action. The sugars and organic acids contained in fruits also increase their laxative effect. Hence, regular use of fruits prevents and cures constipation.

There must be SOME fruits that you like, yes?

When I was a yout, we had a pomegranit tree in front, squeeze out the juice, fresh each time. That was my intro to juicing. Very Low Tech.

Why not try a bit o high tech? Git yerself a juicer machine, try some juicing with the fruits, add a bit o ginger to kill the taste.

I'm a fan o juicing - removes that silly taste and texture problem.

Perhaps a compromise is in order?

You can tell her to make you juice with the juicer, but add in some palm oil and serutan granules. then you have some fat and fiber - the taste will be different too.

No, don't use fruits in cans with corn syrup - that defeats the healthy purpose, yes?

Do you like jello ? use freshly prepared juice in lieu of water, when you are making the jello.

She's simply looking out for your health - there must be some way she can continue to do this, and at the same time you accept her fruit usage. Yes? No ?

You could always make a fruit smoothie with the juicer and a blender - add in some vodka - you won't taste the fruit, much.

What's yer problem with fruit, seriously? taste? smell? texture? All of those can be masked once you've run it through a juicer.

If there was some life-threatening childhood event that caused this hatred - well, I can't help ya..

As long as you at least eat some oranges you might be able to get thru life that way. I don't understand how anybody could dislike apples. Maybe you just don't like sweet fruit. Have you ever tried a green apple? Come on, you don't like strawberries? Blackberries fresh picked? You don't like mango? Papaya? Oh well, just make sure you get your vitamin C and potassium from oranges.

My future wife explained how it works to me - (1) she prepares the food and (2) I come to the table to eat it with her and don't give her any trouble.

She is an excellent cook and I know that she is just watching out for my health because she loves me so I am prepared for a variety of new foods. Fortunately I do like fruit, vegetables and most Chinese food. I'm not the big fan of fungus and some other things she thinks are necessary for my health but once she explained the health benefits of eating it, I learned to tolerate it.

She explained to me (maybe some of the Chinese folks here will agree or disagree with this statement) that in Chinese culture, what you eat is part of keeping you healthy. So that is why you eat some oils, some nuts (she loves those little sunflower seeds), some fish or tofu, some fruit, some fungus etc. It is all part of a balanced diet to keep you healthy. Kind of preventative maintenance for the human body.

When she tells me she cooks this way for me because she wants us to be healthy and together for a long, long time - it just melts my heart. I would eat sawdust if she put it in front of me. Her cooking is very, very good and now I am learning to like things I never thought I would like.

I did tell her that when she gets here I cannot eat all 21 weekly meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner x 7 days) of only Chinese food. I could not eat 21 meals a week of only American food either. I think 15 to 18 meals a week of Chinese food will be good, then the rest I hope she can learn to cook European, Other Asian (Thai, Vietnamese, Indian) Mexican, Cuban and American foods for some variety. I think she learn to do this because she is very clever and she lived in Europe for several years.

Fruit is not bad and you do not have to just eat apples or pears. Try apples, grapes, cherrys, peaches, pineapples cut up and tossed in a salad. Or how about grilled pineapple and apple over a grill? Also try it with yogurt or frozen yogurt or in breakfast cereal. An apple a day...!

Good luck!

Have your wife buy several different varieties of fruit, then, don't eat for about three days. Sooner or later you'll get hungry and find your way to the fruit bowl. It will fill your stomach and make you a better lover.

Well, as a child I did not like it either. My mother would try to feed it to me and I would spit it out, "as I am told by my mother" so for some reason I just don't like it. You are right, the taste, and the texture make me just want to throw up. I do like the smell of fruit though. I do like Oranges, this is the only fruit I do like. My wife will force me to eat a Banana, I can handle that one but it is not as good as Oranges. Yes I do like Jello, so maybe fruit juice being made with Jello will work. I don't like smoothes or any of those fruit drinks. Just give me the Vodka on ice  OR with some Orange juice. My house is filled with fruit, we go to the Hong Kong market and she fills the cart half filled with all types of fruit. She eats it all day long. YUK!!
