There are a lot of musical instruments made in China. (Maybe even your Bass, Tsap.)

Did you hear that Cuzin???????? :o Your bass maybe made in China?  :rotfl:

I don't mind a chuckle on my behalf: But;

I didn't see where the name of the bass was mentioned. There is no doubt in my mind that guitars in the $2000 price range are made in China and are worth the money.

China produces many precision instruments, there all levels of quality right up to the rare and beautiful. The perception that all Chinese products are substandard is American propaganda.

That chuckle was an insider musicians' joke. :) Quality guitars sold in America are certainly not made in China. Now I am talking about guitars that are played by gigging American musicians. The best quality guitars are generally designed my Leo Fender and Les Paul. There are others but they are not made in China. We are not talking about "all Chinese products", we are talking about guitars. I still make a living playing quality instruments made in America and Cuzin Tsap did the same years ago. I'll let him tell you where his bass was made.

Bottom line, America makes far superior guitars than China has ever done. :)

Ah. I understand.

Still, I'm a bit surprised that some enterprising Chinese hasn't decided there is a market & a profit to be made from manufacturing guitars of the highest quality.

But, the bottom line is: I, who know virtually nothing about guitars, am going to shadup. :ok:

Haven't you seen that "Esteban" guy on Home Shopping Network selling those acoustic guitar packages?

Those are made in China, but you will never see one being sold in China.

South Korean electric guitars and bass are just fine.

I would never bring one of my fine instruments to China, except for a portable instrument such as a flute or violin or harmonica.

Buy a $600 bass in America and bring it with you to China, thats the best way I think.

Why bring a $2000 bass to China?Where can you plug it in?A nightclub?

What would the neighbors think?

But thats a fake piano, made entirely from old Chinese newspapers and shoe polish.

Just go a little further and you will be in Hong Kong.

You can trust the quality there.

Brand names at American prices.

When a high quality product is manufactured in China, most often its not available to buy in China.

I remember the Sony Digital Camera problem in China about a year ago,all the ones made in China for sale in China had the fake part inside, but the real ones were shipped out of China.

For electric guitars, etc, theres a big music store in HongKong with all the regular stuff just like an American music store.

Same price range too.

South Korea and Japan are the same.

Its an excellent music store in HongKong, has everything you would expect to find in an American music store. No fakes.

I am a serious musician and collector of professional quality musical instruments.

I found it nearly impossible to find high quality traditional Chinese instruments in China, unless you track down the actual people making the thing you are looking for.

I want to buy a 4 string GuJin,so Ill have to pay someone to make me a real one.

Its not easy to track down these people,if you want the genuine item.

Luckily,a mid quality low priced electric bass guitar is still a nice instrument and can be played in a professional setting.

Something like that could probably be found in a major Chinese city.

Tsap - here's a few ideas -

1. there are music universities across China - befriend one of the older profs that has a penchant for blues or jazz, have him suggest a 'better' place to buy one. Pick up some old blues and jazz VINYL albums at the local salvation army / church charity shops / church bizarres to help with the 'trade'.

2. buy what you need from a 'leaving exapt' - sometimes they won't want to carry their gear back to their home country. You'll need to hang out on the expat web portals for this one.

3. someone mentioned to bring yer own strings. I second that recommendation. Bring more than you need, even for regular guitar - give em away to your new guanzi buddies/musicians.

My bass is indeed a Music Man Sterling made by Ernie Ball in San Luis Obispo, California USA....believe it or not

When I played as my only occupation I played a variety of Fenders and mainly a nice Rickenbacker I picked up along the trail somewhere. This baby is SWEET. It weighs a ton and the neck is like it was built for me. I took it to the "Guitar Shop" in Georgetown, DC and had them set it up for me. Old hippies workin' there tune and hot rod guitars for professionals passing through town, you name it, they've worked for them.

I can't take this work of art off to China..I just can't do it. The bridge on this thing weighs 5 pounds itself...sustain out the yang and the action is so close you can easily bend strings and just whisper touch over the fret board. I'll never play it to it's potential. :whip:

So, looks like I'm gonna take me a cheap Fender and work out my self with my tons of CD's and get my chops back. I'm also gonna call the guitar player and keyboard guy from the last band I played in and see what their up to, for when I come back to the states. I talked to them a few years back and we laughed how all we'd have to do would be to play any of the sets we played in the mid to late seventies...Average White Band, Eart Wind and Fire, Allman Brothers, Isley Brothers...

I'm buying a pair of good headphones to plug into whatever I take over and work out everyday by myself, rather I can find some other players or not, I'll just work on getting my "mojo" back, like I used to have. :plane:

Heck, it's gonna be fun, practice, tons of walking, doing some writing, traveling around parts of Chinatucky looking at the communities rOgGiE owns, we may even bump into that land barron, hisowndamnself.

Thanks again guys, I always appreaciate learning...
