TaijiMonkey
My Fiancee entered the U.S. on Dec. 19th, and handed over her paperwork to DHS at Customs. We waited until Dec. 29th to file for the Social Security at the local office. We were told at that time that DHS hadn't entered her into the system yet, so they told her they would take her SS-5 and birth certificate, hold onto it, and match it up once she was entered into the system. She was given a letter that said it would be 8 weeks until she recieved her card, but the officer said she would be get a letter in the mail in two weeks about the status. When I called today (2 weeks later) I was told that it would indeed be 8 weeks to get her SS#. Is that the normal time frame? Link to comment
warpedbored
Generaly it takes about two weeks after they enter the country to get entered into the computer. We were told 4 weeks but her SS card arrived about 4 days after we applied. Link to comment
Sebastian
Nah - something's wonky. Go back to that SSA office, ask for the birth certificate and SS-5, then go to a different SSA office, talk to a supervisor, file it again. Good luck ! Link to comment
