AOS Question

Hi Everyone,

 

I have not written for a while. My new family and I have been very busy getting our home in order. Now, I have a question.

 

On 11-18-08, we applied for my fiancee's SS card in her maiden name.

 

On 12-15-08, my fiancee and I got married by the Justice of the Peace. We will have a "real wedding" later.

 

Today, 12-23-08 having never heard anything from SS, we went back to the office. The woman there was very nice. She verified my girl's immigration status with DHS. Then, she updated our application to show my wife's new name. (Now my wife is using her first name, her maiden name for her middle name, and my last name for her last name.) As we were leaving the SS office, the woman said that we should contact DHS to let them know we had gotten married. Is this really necessary now, or can we just do that when we file the AOS paperwork?
