This could be a good business for some retired vets! Short-term security detail work...

Doesn't seem like that bad of an investment to have a security/medical officer or two on larger ships. There's always someone willing to work for some price, even a low price with free room and a hot meal. The trick is finding someone who will pay attention, so you don't get caught off guard.
