AmyAndDoug
I'm having my GC interview on Jan. 16, so we're staring to gather the documents needed to bring to the interview. 1. We got married in China, so we had to get it certified by the U.S. Consulate. However, they took the original certified marriage certificate at the GZ visa interview and never gave it back. It was the only original certified copy we had. Now we only have photocopies of certified document, and the original Chinese marriage certificate. Will that be sufficient? 2. On the GC appointment letter, there's a checklist of items we need to bring. a). A completed medical examinatoin (Form 1-693) and vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope (unless already submitted). . A completed I-864 (unless already submitted). Just to make sure, I do NOT have to bring them since I already submitted them along with my I-485 application, correct? 3. On the checklist c). original and copy of each supporting document that you submitted with your application. Otherwise, we may keep your originals for our records. Does that mean everything I bring to the GC interview, I'd better also bring a copy of it, otherwise in case they want to keep any, they'll have to keep the original? But what kind of documents will they want to keep anyway? They already have almost all the documents I'm bringing to the interview. @_@ Thanks in advance!~Amy Link to comment

You might ask if they can make their own copy and give you the original back, although your photocopies ARE sufficient. They only need copies, NOT the originals, although the IO can REQUEST to see the original. 2) Your medical exam took place in China. You only need to have the vaccination part filled out by a civil surgeon here (the vaccination supplement is now a section of the I-693), as per the instructions on that form. 3) see 1. I assume all my files (including my original certified marriage certificate) are in that "DO NOT OPEN" folder GZ consulate gave me to give to POE. However, the POE officer told me to keep that folder for GC interview. so I still have it UNOPENED, and will bring it to the interview. No problem, right? 2). They changed the rules for K-3, so I had a civil surgeon here redo my medical exam and mailed the sealed envelope (including the vacc. supplement) along with my I-485 application. So, I do not have to bring anything this time, right? Thanks Randy! Link to comment

Unless someone else can explain what's going on, you need to take it to an InfoPass appointment (unless someone here knows what's going on). If your immigration file is actually the I-130 file, well, that may explain it. 2) Yes. You have a current medical exam w/vaccination record on file in any event. If your immigration file is actually the I-130 file, well, that may explain it. I came in with K3, so that's I-129F. I have posted here before regarding that folder. I think the POE office made a mistake and didn't take my file. Some people in the forum have suggested that we call my POE and return the file. But my husband decided to just keep quiet about it until someone says something. So far we got to the AOS interview without any question. So we'll continue to keep quiet, unless the AOS interviewer raises any question. =P and if nothing happens, after I get my citizenship, I'll finally open that file and get my original certified marriage certificate out. No - the I-130 HAD to be filed first, before you could file the I-129F with the NOA1 from the I-130. If the I-130 was never forwarded to GUZ, then you DO have a folder here, which is APPARENTLY what the interview will be based on. Nothing wrong with that. Many people only file I-130 and I-485. My advice (now that I've caught up to the whole picture) - BRING the folder with you to the AOS interview. It sounds like you're in good shape - I wouldn't worry about it either. Link to comment

They already ripped my original certified marriage certificate apart though, into ugly loose pages. Should I ask for it back? I think they required original copy at the visa interview and kept it for that reason. Will I need the original in the future for anything or just the photocopy is sufficient? Link to comment
Squonk
After reading these posts, I am a little confused. We turned the GUZ K1/K2 package to the USCIS officer at the POE.Are we supposed to have this package in our possession when we go for the GC interview?I did not make any copies of the material inside because most of the items were sealed when it was turned over to the GUZ and the final package was sealed when the GUZ gave it back to us.The USCIS officer did not take my wife's xray. She told me to bring it to the GC interview. When I called the USCIS support line, they stated the xray should hve been received in by the USCIS officer with the GUZ data package. You will see the contents of the envelope at the interview (at least the IO will) You should have copies (or be able to reproduce) anything you submitted Don't worry about the x-ray. Nobody wants it. AmyAndDoug
Hi, I just want to thank you all for being so helpful (way more helpful than my lawyer!) along the way. I gave the "do not open" package to the GC interviewer today. and I'M GLAD I DID. She's like "you're supposed to give this to the POE people!" I explained that I tried to give it to them but they told me to keep it for the GC interview. She just shook her head and said "they're so lazy, they were supposed to take this..." and spent some time putting everything into my file. Everything went well. she didn't ask a word about financial, just about how we met, where we married, parents attending wedding, and evident of living together in the u.s. Got the stamp in the passport, she took away my EAD card since the stamp states work authorization. The interview finished at 9am. I just checked my email at 5pm, got an email update for card production ordered already! =D Link to comment
