My fiancee worked in Japan for 2 years during the 90's. I understand she will need a police report from Japan, which is available through a Japanese consulate in China. This is where things are unclear, exactly what paperwork will she need at the Japanese consulate to obtain her police report? If anyone here has gone through this process, please help us! xiaofeizhu Posted December 8, 2008 Report Share Posted December 8, 2008 Hey. That was us that dnoblett posted about hehe. We finally got the Japanese police report after going to GUZ to request it. They were really mean to us while we were there, but they did apply for it. I can't remember when exactly we got it, but we had our P3 which said that they needed police reports from any country lived in blah blah. So GUZ did get it for us, even though Beijing did not. However, I would suggest to just NOT go to Beijing's embassy because they just basically flick you off. They won't give it to you until you have your interview paper, and no matter where you get it from, it will take 2-3 months. We applied on 4/14 and got the call on 6/2 that said it was in. I would suggest going ASAP to get the police report. It may be difficult to get it without any kind of P3 or anything, but if you are near any consulate or the embassy, I would say to give it a try already and see what they tell you. This way you will be able to find out what kind of tricks they are up to if they are up to anything new. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions! Link to comment

Is it the P3 letter the Japanese consulate wants to see before they will help? My fiancee lives in Dalian, which is probably 2000 miles from Guangzhou, but it does have a Japanese Consulate. The paragraphs below were the response I received. The top is mechanical translated and the bottom is the original. My understanding is they want the P3 letter. Am I correct? If so, I plan to suggest that as soon as she receives the P3 packet that she goes to the Japanese consulate and applies for the police report. Then after she has applied, wait one month before sending in the P3 packet to Guangzhou. I think that way the police report should arrive in time for the interview. Randy W Posted January 4, 2009 Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 (edited) Either that there is not enough time to get the report for the P3 (not an issue), to wait for the P3 (like you said), or do like xiaofeizhu did and have the consulate request it directly from the Japanese embassy. Recently Qingyun took a copy of the I-797 ( NOA2 ) letter, that I had emailed to her, a copy of the OF-169 letter she found online and her passport, and went to the Japanese Consulate. With a little persuading they made the application, took her finger prints and told her it would take 2 to 3 months to receive! I expected the need for this police report was going to delay her Guangzhou interview, based on the experiences of others I have read. I guess you just never know how much trouble obtaining a police report from the Japanese Consulate will be!!! We got lucky!!! Thanks for your input! Jeff Link to comment
