hi, Randy, thanks for the reply. :o

Don't tell them you checked the box or they will tell you to wait for it to come in the mail.

Yes, Like Lee said. Do not tell them.

My wife also came to the U.S. on a CR1.

Of course she checked the Box.

But after the two week waiting period we went to the SS office and applied. There where no questions asked and all her info was in the system.

Two weeks after that.

SS card in the mail. piece a cake!

My wife just entered the US as an IR1 on Nov 18. She was given a paper that says she should receive the SS card within 3 weeks. The CBP agent said that was BS because there are many routes the paperwork has to follow. He suggested going to the nearest SS office to apply.

Charles, My wife was told the same thing while entering the U.S.

This is good advise!!

BTW: Welcome home! And enjoy the family life.

Take care buddy.

Mike

For anyone concerned about getting 2 SSN's in this situation, don't worry.

If the USCIS got it into the system the SSA will find it when they enter the A# into the SAVE system and tell you it's already been ordered and if the USCIS go to enter it in the system and you've already applied for the SSN it will show up as completed.

I haven't heard of a CR-1 automatically getting an SSN for a long time.
