yaya44
One of the joys of going to Blu Ray is the international support of the BD movies, particularly in the subtitles. Since my wife isn't 100% fluent in English yet, this helps us immensely enjoy the movies together while letting her learn better "Americanese". I'll add more as i find them (feel free to contribute to this collection, but remember must be Blu Ray title only)....enjoy: 212001: A Space Odyssey27 Dresses28 Days Later28 Weeks Later30 Days Of Night50 First DatesA Clockwork OrangeA Few Good MenA Knight's TaleAcross the UniverseAliens vs Predator : RequiemAlvin and the ChipmunksBig FishBlack Hawk DownBlade RunnerBonnie and ClydeBram Stoker's DraculaButch Cassidy and the Sundance KidCasino RoyaleCatch and ReleaseClickClose Encounters of the Third KindCloserDay After TommorrowEyes Wide ShutFantastic Four: Rise of the Silver SurferFinal Fantasy: The Spirits WithinFirst KnightFull Metal JacketGattacaGhost RiderHarry Potter and the Camber of SecretsHarry Potter and the Goblet of FireHarry Potter and the Order of the PhoenixHarry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanHitchHitmanI, RobotIce AgeIdentityIndependence DayJerry MaGuireJumperKill Bill Vol 1Kill Bill Vol 2Layer CakeLife of BrianLive Free or Die HardMade of HonorMan on FireMaster and Commander: The Far Side of the WorldMe Myself & IreneMemoirs of a GeishaMen in BlackMr. and Mrs. SmithNational Treasure 2: Book of SecretsOcean's 13PaprikaReign Over MeResident Evil 3: ExtinctionS.W.A.T.Spiderman 3StealthStranger Than FictionStreet KingsSunshineSuperbadThe 6th DayThe BenchwarmersThe Devil's OwnThe Fifth ElementThe Happening * - note it says it is subtitle in Chinese, but I did not find a selection for it?The HulkThe Lost BoysThe Love GuruThe Perfect StormThe Replacement KillersThe Simpson's MovieThe Water Horse: Legend of the DeepTroy: Director's CutUltravioletUnderworld:EvolutionVantage PointVertical LimitWalk HardWhat Happens in Vegas You Don't Mess with the Zohan Edited October 8, 2008 by yaya44 (see edit history) Link to comment
Guest Mike and Lily
It took me ten years to get my DVD collection to where it is today. It's a little discouraging to think I need to replace them all with the new technology. Link to comment

Sebastian
thats a good list, but somewhere i've got a website of a legit distributor who handles dvds with simplified chinese subtitles. it's a longer list, asi remember. ya, blu ray is cool - but i'm sticking with dvds till she arrives... yaya44
As i said, this is for technophiles on the cutting edge of newer technology. I discarded my 200+ DVD collection this past year moving to BD once the HD format war was over. There's nothing like watching true 1080p movie on a 50"+ bigscreen with frame interpolation with it (I use an HTPC to a Sammy 52" LCD TV)....no offense, but if you want to gripe about costs, benefits of going to BD, might want to start another thread instead of diluting this one.... ps. hello123
Hey Yaya44, Sounds like we have somethings in common. I also have an HTPC connected to a projector. The projector is a few years old now so it only does 1080i or 720p but the pic is pretty good. Nothing better than having a 10x6 foot screen on your wall! Also, having internet content on the screen is a huge bonus. Recently, I stuck in a blue ray dvd player to my rebuilt HTPC and have been playing with that. Picture is great! I havn't invested in new disks yet because of the prices but I am starting to rent...too bad I can't find less expensive bluray stuff in China yet Link to comment

When i was perusing around some of the stores, they seem to have outdated stuff or 2nd tier brands at best (strange considering most of the products are coming from China hehe). Until someone figures a way to copy blu-ray in china, i don't think the prices will come down, as it seems the mindset there is well against any retail media medium, since you can get it a similar CD/DVD/etc. on the street corner for 10rmb or so. Sebastian
yaya - is ok, i wasn't complaining about the technology at all, but the lack of titles subtitled in chinese. sure, finally 'some' are available, but that list of dvd titles is over 11000 now. I like my setup - i even have a blue ray device, but i'm not really purchasing chinese-subtitled platters until the list expands to over 1000. Link to comment

Strange, I barely had a dozen titles subtitled in Chinese with my old DVD collection...with Blu Ray, there are quite several dozens now with more on the way. Note: I never imported titles, only looked at US released ones. p.s. added a few more titles also. Link to comment
izus
any dvd purchased in china will have chinese subtitles. and depending on where you get them they are pretty good quality.most BeiJing or ShangHai stores ive been in you can just ask the store clerk which are dvd quality and which ones are not and he or she will point them out to you. everytime we go home we bring quite a few titles back with us. most are all dvd-rip 720p quality unless its a brand new movie that was just released. be sure not to bring any duplicates back.ive been stopped by customs and they went through each movie title and told me if they find any doubles its means im distributing. the customs guy was even commenting on which movie he liked and didnt like.
