I never gave much thought to my long distance company until I first went to China, came back, and was greeted with a $700 phone bill my first month back (and it only amounted to about 3-4 calls!). I jumped around to several companies and cards, but for the past two years I've been steadily using Worldxchange/acceris. The rates have varied from about $0.03 to $0.08 per minute over the past two years (it's currently $0.06). I'm not the kind of person to shill a phone company, but these guys are great. I never have to even think about it. About 9 months ago China Telcom screwed around with rates, and these guys called me to warn me that rates would go up to about $0.20 per minute. Sure enough, within a few weeks, they had managed to get it back down to $0.06.
