azpat
I got married last month and my wife is here on K-1 and we are preparing the AOS paperwork. Can I change my W-4 tax status to married and 2 or leave as Single as there is a checkbox for Single Status and if "spouse is a nonresident alien, select 'Single' status"? Link to comment
Randy W
It is your choice. The W-4 affects the amount withheld from your paycheck. You are responsible for making sure you pay enough withholding or estimated payments by Jan 15 to avoid paying a penalty. If you will be filing married filing jointly (say yes here), claim "married" on the W-4 so you won't have too much withheld. If you wish to make a short term donation of money to the IRS, claim single. Edited April 9, 2008 by Randy W (see edit history) Link to comment
