RogerJune
Dear all,Has anybody done any similar police clearance from the UK Metropolitan Police station? I have just received a letter from them, but I am not sure whether the letter is the one that I need to show to the US Consulate on my interview? Anybody can help? Here is how the letter was written:"In reply to your request for information that maybe held about you by the Metropolitan Police on computers in the following categories:Person Record: Prosecution/ConvictionThe Data Protection Act places an obligation on the Police when holding personal information on computer to provide a copy of that information (unless an exemption applies) to the individual concerned on request. From the personal details supplied in your request there is no information held about you in the Person Record category of the Police National Computer. Is it the one? sometimes I think whether it said that "they can't find any of my personal information on their computer" but I do remember I went to the Police station for registration once I arrived in the UK, how come they don't have my record?Just to confirm whether that letter is the Police clearance or not. Many thanks. Link to comment
LeeFisher3
Sounds right, I'm assuming it is on their stationary and has an official stamp or seal. Link to comment

It is on their stationary But I didn't see any official stamp on the letter. Also UK is not always particular about official stamp or something. Link to comment
RogerJune
Another question. I just read about a message about the police report in Japan, and it said that if the report is open by anybody, then it is void. But I made teh request a month ago, and as the receiver, I have to open it to see what it is inside, otherwise, I never know what the letter is written about. It might be something about requesting some more documents from me to assist in the case. Anybody can answer whether my report is still valid or not? many thanks. Link to comment
IllinoisDave
The solution offered to the Japan catch-22 was to get two copies and open one to check it,leaving the other sealed. Don't know whether the rules are the same for UK reports or not, or if it's feasible for you to get an extra copy. Edited March 2, 2008 by IllinoisDave (see edit history) Link to comment

This is not the case for the UK, the report will be in English, no need to open it. Link to comment

In that case the Catch-22 doesn't really apply. I'd go with the one from the UK and make sure to keep a photocopy of it. Link to comment
RogerJune
The thing is I have already opened it to check what it is, and I have no other police clearance report still sealed now. Shall I ask for an extra copy of it to make sure it is valid? Thanks. Link to comment

The packet for the interview is assembled at the hospital after the medical exam and the staff there doesn't care if it's in a sealed envelope, they will just open it and put the letter in the file. If it makes you feel any better, the police certificate from China will not be in a sealed envelope either. Link to comment

B)I agree, Yu's police cert from China was just a book, no sealed envelope, the people at the med center dont care if it is in a sealed envelope. Link to comment
RogerJune
Another question, I have been staying in more than one city in the UK, such as London, Birmingham etc. Do I have to send request to the police station of Birmingham too? I read some related info about that before and it seems like someone suggested to get it from different cities. I thought their network is all connected, if you get the certificate from police station in London, the Birmingham one should also be notified and checked. Sorry, this question might be a little stupid. Link to comment

Sorry, this question might be a little stupid.Only one is needed, it is a national one, it is only needed if you lived in the UK for more than a year.
