yvrsyd
I seem to be getting some conflicting information about this, but does anyone with a K1 visa have experience on being able to obtain a social security number upon arrival in the US? Thanks. Link to comment
scooby94
We had to wait about 2-4 weeks upon arrival for the computer systems to be in sync, but we were able to get one without any problems. Everyone has different stories here regarding SSN. Best of luck. Link to comment
dnoblett
K-1 is "Work Auth" primarily to be able to get the SSN, some states are strict in their interpretation of a federal law that requires persons applying for a "license" to have SSN, this can cause a problem with marriage license if only one person has SSN and the other (the K-1 holder) does not. Typically can apply between 2 weeks after entry up until 76 days after entry, after that and SSA will not issue a SSN until, prospective imigrant either has EAD card or Green-Card. Link to comment

ameriken
Add us to the above list.......my wife came in on a K1 and we applied about 5 weeks after she arrived, and she got the card 5 days after we applied. It was the simplest, fastest, and easiest past of the entire process. Link to comment
