scooby94
Hi there, sorry if this is the wrong place to file...but i have a quick question regarding california resident tax filing. i have been a resident of California for 20 years, but my wife has been here since last september and when i go to do my taxes, (quicken by the way) it says that im a non resident as well. How does one file if one has been in the states for a while and the other one has just arrived. Does anyone know if this is correct or should i be filing the california one manually. Thanks all. Randy W
I'm guessing that California would follow the federal guidelines Check out this thread: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=267983 Link to comment
jim_julian
The way we handled it the first year was MFJ on the federal tax, therefore the same on California and, for tax purposes, she is a resident and you are taxed on your combined global income. Link to comment
scooby94
Thanks for the clarification. I will set her up as a resident as well. Link to comment
