I think I have heard that the conditional 2 years are counted toward the 10 years..... Link to comment

Also LPR status does not end when the 10 year card expires, LPR = Lawful Permanent Resident, PERMANENT means permanent, you just have no evidence of status. When the 10 year card expires you need to file an I-90 to get a new card good for another 10 years. It is recommended to apply for citizenship, this eliminates having to worry about renewing green-cards, having to carry the card, paying fees to replace a lost card. Link to comment
