a.an extension of stay in my current status.

b.a change of status, the new status i am requesting is>______

c.other ( describe grounds of eligibility)__________

i was going to fill in b, a change of status, but there are only 5 options i can choose from B-1A,B,C,D, OR B-1

No - I think you DO NOT change status from B1/B2 to H1B. I think your sponsoring employer would handle the application for a work visa.

Form I-539:

Application To Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status

Purpose of Form :

For nonimmigrants to request extensions of stay or changes from one nonimmigrant category to another nonimmigrant category. Please see the form¡¯s instructions for your specific nonimmigrant visa category. It is used by F and M nonimmigrants seeking reinstatement of status. It is also used by K-3/4 nonimmigrants to request extensions of stay and by persons seeking V nonimmigrant status while in the United States or extension of stay as a V nonimmigrant.

Does this make sense?
