Applying for ss card after biometrics

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This Thursday my wife and stepdaughter are going to get there biometrics done. Question:

1-My wife has a ss card with a conditional status on it requiring EAD card to be issued before she can work, does she need to go back to Local SS office to take off the conditional status when she receives her EAD card?

2-My stepdaughter needs to obtain a SS#, when can she do this after she obtains her EAD?

Thank you

Ben and XueYing

1) Can remove the notation only after getting the green-card, she is considered to be NON-Immigrant that is work authorized per the EAD card.

2) K-2 can only get SSN when they become work-authorized, either by EAD card or Green-Card. K-2 is not "work authorized" at entry like the K-1.

. . . And No, she does not need to get it removed. However, in some areas of the country, this might be viewed as a restriction (we have heard of people being deniednankon because of it). Here in Houston, though, if you are legal even with the "restriction" it's considered a big plus.

It's pretty much of a meaningless "restriction" since EAD or green card determine employability.

As I understand after we get EAD we then go to SS office with card for my stepdaughter to obtain SS card?

Thanks again,

BG

Correct, EAD or Green-card which ever arrives first.

Note: give USCIS 2 weeks or so after issuing the card before visiting SSA, it takes USCIS 2 weeks to update the database used by SSA to confirm immigrations status.

Your help is always greatly appreciated, so now all we do is take care of biometrics and wait again for EAD.

How cold is it in Rochester and is your Lao po adjusting well to the cold?

Right now has been below freezing, and snow is 23" above normal for this time of year, can you say "White Christmas"? Yu seems to be adjusting OK, I have a 12v electric blanket in my car for her to keep warm.
