iyan46
I have a new question for you all and hope you can help. As you know Jing and her son have received their Visa's ( or will when she picks them up today ) Problem is ... my fault .. i read the US Embassy page wrong or misunderstood it to say that Johns visa would be good for 1 year. I guess this is not the case ... it's only good for 6 months. Because of school issues we would like to extend it until august so he can finish his school year there and start the new school year here in Florida ... how do we extend his visa and when do we do that ? any ideas ? LeeFisher3
GZ has re-issued visas before, I don't recall the specifics, but it needs to be done prior to the expiration of the existing visa and requires a new visa fee of $100. Also, it may require updated notary documents if any of them expire their life of 1 year. I'd suggest you present the question on the consulate web site as to the procedure before finalizing your plans. I'm not sure of the age of your son, but in most cases there is no problem transferring mid-year. The schools in China seem to be very accommodating in providing translated school records to assist in the process. Link to comment

I don't mind paying the $100 and all of her documents are new so they won't expire before then ... He's 16 and just wants to finish with his friends is all ... he will come if we have no other choice ... but if it's possible i'd like to postpone so he can com in July instead of the beginning of May. And Jings brother is a teacher ... he offered to make sure we got all the records and have them translated for us Link to comment
iyan46
I have just gone back to the consulate webpage and read again what i saw before ... this is taken directly from travel.state.gov "The child may travel with (accompany) the K-1 parent/fiance`) or travel later (follow-to-join) within one year from the date of issuance of the K-1 visa to his/her parent. A separate petition is not required if the children accompany or follow the alien fiance`) within one year from the date of issuance of the K-1 visa." am i reading this wrong or does it say his visa is good for 1 year after date of issue ? Nope - you got it right - but look at his visa. It expires in 6 months. What they say is true IF you wait for 6 months or longer AFTER the K-1 to get the K-2 visa. Link to comment

MikeandRong
You will need to go back to GUZ and have them split the sealed envelope, 1 for each when they arrive at the POE if you choose for them not to travel together.
