2 ways, Direct-TV, and Dish net offer Chinese programing at a premium, and may require a different dish.

OR ON-Line! If you have a broadband connection to the net there are several streaming services, with Chinese TV, and Audio.

If your SO is net savvy she will gravitate to some of the websites that provide video, there is a Chinese YOU-Tube on the web with all those bootleg movies. http://www.youku.com/

Streaming video players: (MANY Chinese TV Channels)

Ok I will try, thanks for the info

I was about to order service from DirectTV, I have the wide dish for HD and local programing, DirecTV has the Chinese programing on a different satilite that requies an even bigger 5 LNB dish.

After seeing the quality of internet TV, it is quite good, a bit on the lo-res side, but Yu is OK with it, and the price is right. (FREE)

Thinking it would be a good thing for Jin if we could get some chinese language TV/Radio for when she gets here, is it possible? or just via computer?

get a satellite and you can get CCTV. my local cable company also offers CCTV on the 'deluxe or i-like-getting-really-ripped-off package'.

If you can¡¯t have a dish there, then you are stuck with cable or the alternative internet based service as outlined here by others.

I can¡¯t have a dish either, and my cable provider, COMCAST, has only one China channel available, no matter how much you pay.

You might touch bases with member toy_rn65, he lives in your area/region and may have some more insight ?? He is in China now with his SO, but will return around the 10th or 11th I believe. :harhar1:

Unless you are in some sort of apartment where you don't have an exclusive use area you can use to point your dish from, this is not true. No homeowners association AKA asshole association can prevent anyone from having a dish up to 1 meter in diameter. Don't let someone railroad you.

FCC Fact Sheet

I really don't know how anyone could stand to watch CCTV much, but CCTV 4 & 9, and several other Mandarin language channels, mostly from Taiwan, are available totally free, they are not encrypted at all, anyone with a free to air receiver and a dish of 30" minimum size can watch them.

You also need a clear view (no trees, buildings, or other obstructions) to the south.
