Guest Mike and Lily
1. When my fiance arrives here, can we apply for a SSN right away or do we need to wait until we marry. (nd how long will it take?) 2. What process do we need to complete so she can travel back to China and still be allowed to return to the USA? 3. When will she receive an alien number? None of the paperwork she has received to date indicates she has one yet. Thanks. Link to comment

Randy W
FIND that A-number! They have been known to open a second file when you don't. It's on your I-797 NOA1 and on the I-94 in the passport. Link to comment

dnoblett
1. When my fiance arrives here, can we apply for a SSN right away or do we need to wait until we marry. (nd how long will it take?) Wait 2 weeks from entry into the country and then apply for SSN at local SSA office, we waited until married and applied using married name, but from some reports, you can encounter morons in the SSA office, and they sometimes have problems issuing using married name. 2. What process do we need to complete so she can travel back to China and still be allowed to return to the USA? File for AP 4 months or so before planed travel date, (I-131) you may have green card before then and green-card allows travel 3. When will she receive an alien number? None of the paperwork she has received to date indicates she has one yet. Look at notice of action letter for the I-129F, A number should be printed above beneficiary's name. http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/albums/Immigration/I-129F-NOAs/NOA2.jpg Link to comment
