change2marrow
My SO entered the US almost 2 months ago under a CR1. We received the Green Card 3 weeks later. Now I’m wondering if the SS Card will be sent or do I have to go to the SS office? My understanding was that the SS card would follow soon after the green card was sent. Am I wrong? Help, if anyone can. Thanx. Link to comment
david_dawei
Quite a few CR1s have reported not getting the SS card... The checkbox on DS-230 for a SS card appears to be for work based visas, not family based ones... so you still have to go to the SS office. Most likely shes not even in their system... LeeFisher3
When you go to SSA do not mention that the box was checked on the DS-230 or you stand a chance of them turning you away without them checking the computer. It's just amazing how lazy some of our government employees can be. Link to comment
Carl
After Ying was in the States for about a week and a half, we went to the local Social Security office. They looked up Ying's information and decided that DHS had not yet submitted her information. The lady said she was not surprised, so she said she would just treat Ying as if she was applying for a new number. All they needed was her passport, visa and our marriage certificate to put her card in her married name. She had her card in just a couple of weeks and since she was a CR-1, there was no work restrictions placed on her. That was our experience, but then here in Texas they are used to doing SSN's for the Mexicans who come up here, legally of course, to work. Link to comment
