Dogderf
My SO's daughter is in the middle of what is the equivalent of her senior year of high school (I think). If all goes according to our timetable, she will be here before she graduates, which is June of '06. So it appears that she will have to get accustomed to a new culture, a new town, a new stepfather, AND a new school, but that's the way it goes I guess. Can anyone give me some info on what I will need to get her enrolled? Any links or advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Fred Link to comment
Randy W
That's gonna be rough on her, Fred. Check with your high school to make sure she can graduate, and what they will need. Link to comment
tywy_99
I asked a similiar question two years ago about my stepdaughter. I was very concerned about her adjustment to American schools. I asked different people and places and basically got the same answer.-Just enroll her in school and the rest will take care of its self. My concerns were too much, I found out. I enrolled her in school. She started in the 7th grade and did extremely well. She is in the 9th grade now and continues to do well. She tells me all is going good at school and I believe her. I'm afraid that students might pick on her or tease her because she is Chinese but it doesn't seem to be any of that happening. Link to comment
Guest Gene
Same here, my new son started mid year in the 6th grade, no problems at all. He did have a couple years of english lessons in china before hand and the schools here have ELL classes to help them. Like Randy said so close to the end could make things different, you might look into having her school transcipts from china translated or something along those lines. Good Luck Edited October 10, 2005 by Gene (see edit history) Link to comment
david_dawei
Without knowing an awful lot about anyones situation... I would say that if the child can appear to 'complete' a grade prior to go to the US.. you should do whatever it takes... Then they at least come to the US with that accomplished.... Link to comment
