tywy_99
Well, after losing my avatar and trying to get it back, I do have a question to put to the esteemed members of this board. I had asked it in the immigrations forum but either it was largely ignored or nobody knew so I will ask it here where it might receive some attention and maybe, just maybe an answer.: 1) What's the difference between an I-797 and an I-797C?2) Who is given the I-797?3) Who is given the I-797C?4) There is a 3rd type of I-797. Anybody know what it is?5) Is there, in fact, a 3rd type of I-797? inquiring minds want to know! Thank you, TY Link to comment
ed and ying
The I-797C is Notice of Receipt, also called NOA-1, it is notification from the service center that it looks like you made no gross errors on the petition, they will cash your check and give you receipt number and put in pile for further processing. The I-797 is Notice of Action, also called NOA-2, it is notification that the service center has approved your petition and can be passed on to the National Visa Center for additional processing. Both the I-797C and I-797 will be sent to the US citizen (petitioner). When you get the I-797 make several copies and then put it in a safe place. You will need the original later during the AOS and it is pain and cost money to get a replacement. ( Mine is the in bank safe deposit box) Give a copy to your SO to have if needed for interview I no nothing of a 3rd type of I-797 Link to comment
tywy_99
Gee, thanks ed, I admire your enthusiasm but I have accumulated about 20 of them already and they are all I-797C's.I thought people were too lazy to add the "C" when talking about the I-797"C", even the USCIS until I learned otherwise. Now I am just curious. But thanks for the reply! Link to comment
