I'm remembering a time in Houston (1960's) when the mosquitoes were wiped out entirely. The net effect was that the predators who ate mosquitoes all died off, so that the mosquitoes came back in force several months later. An interesting, but bizarre, rags to riches story from the SCMP Reminds me of a guy I worked with back in the 80's whose family had left Vietnam the day AFTER the Communist take-over (his father was an big-wig in the South Vietnamese Army, who had to stay until the last minute). This guy became a programmer's aide in the software company I worked for, and was obviously very intelligent but in WAY over his head. He eventually left to work for his family's business. Is she qualified to earn $120,000 a year? Only if she's VERY good at lining up contracts. The auto-pilot doesn't "see" a car stopped on the roadway in Beijing. From the video, you can see that the Tesla didn't even try to swerve around the obstacle. Sorry, but when you're faced with an emergency situation, wondering what to do about the auto-pilot is simply one more, albeit VERY big, distraction. If it turns out to be a situation that the auto-pilot can't handle, it will simply ADD seconds to the reaction time.

An adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Minister says the passenger plane carrying 295 was shot down. Malaysia Airlines lost contact with MH17, and the flight’s last known position was over Ukrainian airspace, the airline said on Thursday. The jet is a Boeing 777, according to Interfax. The plane reportedly went down near the border between Russia and Ukraine.
