  1. Congrats.... I actually believe the interview begins the minute you are called when the officer engages in small talk, weather, family and the like. If the persons answers back in clear English, it is a given she will pass.

I agree Carl .... she said they engaged in some small talk before he started asking questions ,,, and then went thru the application line by line. So i think thats ow they decide if you know english and what it is she's applying for

  2. Jing took her citizenship test today and passed .... Now we wait until she's sworn in, she has to do this in court because of her wanting to use her maiden name as her middle name ... but other than that everything went great.

She was asked 5 or 6 of the 100 questions, asked to read a small sentence and then write a small sentence,

she was asked a few questions made up by the interviewer ( Do you pay taxes, Do you drink and drive ) wife told him she doesn't drink ... but she drives :P

The only thing they asked to see of her was her passport, Green card and drivers licence ... we had everything on the list of things needed ... but he never asked for them. She is extremely happy about becoming an american citizen.

  3. My wife recently applied for her citizenship ... took about 3 wks for them to repond and set up her biometrics appt .... we changed her name on the application and it went through with no problem .... not legal until she swears in ... but it seems pretty easy. the Immigration person she met with at her biometrics gave her all the info she will need including flash cards, a video that shows what to expect during the interveiw and a list of eb=verything she will need to change ... that applies to her.

  4. My wife will soon be applying for citizenship, i have been reading and checking and i have a question that doesn't seem to be addressed ... so maybe someone here can help me.

My son will also be applying for citizenship and as i read it he will have to wait until he has been here 5 yrs due to his age ( 19 ) but he also would like to change his name. According to what i read he will have to do this through the courts to make it a legal name change. My question is this ..... he already has his 10 yr green card, will he have to apply for a new green card before he applys for citizenship ? and if so will he have to reapply for his green card first? or if theres a legal name change form that we can fill out?

  5. She can find all the questions, answers and a link to a practice test at www.uscis.gov/citizenshiptest

She will have to be able to read, write and speak basic english and the civics part of it is as follows

    "Civics Test

There are 100 civics questions on the naturalization test. During your naturalization interview, you will be asked up to 10 questions from the list of 100 questions. You must answer correctly at least six (6) of the 10 questions to pass the civics test.

You have two opportunities to take the English and civics tests per application. If you fail any portion of the test during your first interview, you will be retested on the portion of the test that you failed within 90 days."

    Hope that helps

  7. Hi everyone,

My question is this .... i KNOW someone can answer this for me.

My wife and i have now been married almost 4 yrs ( March wedding ) My stepson moved here about 6 mos. after we were married.

My wife now has her 10 yr GC and it's almost time to file for the sons, Question is ... My son is now an adult and a student at USF... do we still file for his 10 yr GC the same way ... or does he have to do this on his own now that he is an adult?

Do we file the I-751 ?

    Thanks in advance

  8. We have talked about the student visa ... and it's a definate possibilty, I told my wife that i didn't think there was a visa for family other than children ... but thought i'd ask just to be sure.

We ( myself and her family ) are hoping to get her a student visa ... as i told my wife ... she will have to come to enroll in an intensive enlish language call first ... or pass the TOFEL test which i know she can't do right now.

We'll keep you all posted on what happens in the future

  9. Wifes first car was a "98" Ford Escort .... $4000 w/69000 on it Not a bad car and she loved it.

I taught my wife to drive even though she got a license in China .... she never drove there and learned to drive on a driving course. She passed her written test ( permit) and road test first try. We gave the Escort to my stepson when he started his senior yr in HS and Jing bought a Kia Rondo ( small SUV ) she never did any damage to the Escort UNTIL she got the Rondo .... then she backed out of the garage and into the side of the Escort!!!

So i had to teach her to use the side mirrors instead of only the rearveiw mirror.

The only other accident she's had was when she was rearended when she slowed for traffic .... and thanks to that we had the damage from her previous mistake fixed for free :) Got her a good GPS and now she drives all over the state for work and never has a problem. She's been driving less than 1 year

  10. We got records as far back as possible ... and had it all translated before Zheng got here.

When our son started school last year we asked that he be put into AP courses ... the school tested hm the first week of school and he got into all but the physics course ( it was full ) but he kept up his studies in physics online and still kept his A in the class ... next year he will have all AP corses and with dual enrollment he will also have some college out of the way. Make sure you go to the school as soon as possible and get enrolled ..... as far as the shot records all Zheng needed was a cpl of boosters and the Hep B series ( required in fl and most schools ) the rest was easy .... he went into ESL but only for the first term ... he didn't need it and they figured that out pretty quick ... but i think it helped him .... not with the language as much as jut helping him get used to the school and the system .... the teacher was always there to answer any question.

Zheng will be a senior this year and is a straight A student.
