  1. My wife is insisting that all of the people doing the AOS for the 2 year visa must have a interview. A friend of hers is doing AOS now also and will have a interview so this naturaly means she will have one also. Her friends interview is due to financial reasions I think, either that or the fact she is now signed up for state sponsered insurance.

But anyhoo I think Im correct in thinking that it would be more the norm for her to just get the 2 year visa and we have the interview with the 10 year visa AOS.

Im gonna win...... Im gonna win!

We had an interview for the 2 year green card but not the 10 Year one. I wasnt sure why we had an interview since we provided everything, but I think its all about pulling straws...Wish you luck!!!

  2. Hi there,

quick question, has anyone here who is removing the conditional part, received the I-751 Receipt notice and the ASC appointment notice, but the Receipt number on the 1 year conditional form and the Application number(on the biometric notice) are different? should i be worried about this and notify usgov?

please let me know what i should or shouldnt do.

  3.

My wifes family is in Hangzhou area and we were able to rent the cars for about 180 rmb a day (a mini SUV). We had her brother rent it out and i drove, but i would like to get some what of a license since im a better driver than my brother is for next time.

    Thanks again for the posts!

Be careful - driving without a license is a pretty serious offense. It may be very unlikely that you would be caught, but the penalty is vehicle confiscation, or driver detention, or something like that.

Thanks, thats why im asking on how to get one for next time :-)

  4. Hi,

If an american wants to drive/rent a car in China, do they need a drivers license? If so, is it easy to apply for one? We only go back and visit the family once a year for few weeks and we plan on getting a car for next visit for the family but i would i like to drive in china as well.

Any one has any knowledge in this area, i would be grateful.

    thanks.

Perhaps someone can "update" my information...but while I was living in China, I had a Chinese Drivers license - but could NOT find any rental cars that didn't come without a driver. I.e., you could not rent them without a driver. I didn't try everywhere, but I did check out at least 5 or 6! So, I just chose to driver our car everywhere....albeit it took longer to get places than a plane - I had the car for sight seeing etc! For visits - I wouldn't even go through the hassle of doing any of it. Rent a car and driver ...save the wear and tear and search for parking if it involves a big city! Good luck.

  6. Hello David, do you get all the internet features when you use the iphone with T-mobile? Mike & Yizhen

Also to follow up on that - I have heard (not sure if it's true) that you can use the I Phone without the $35 a month data plan if you use it at home (assuming you have a wireless modem), at work (assuming your work has a wireless computer network) or at certain restaurants (Starbucks, McDonalds) and other places that have wireless networks.

But just not at the 3 g speeds. The 3 g I'm told is faster for downloading data (which I won't do a lot of) but also really eats into the battery charge life. I would like to buy an I phone, use it on T Mobile and try to get internet access at places with wireless internet and skip the data contract. Will that work? Can I get decent long distance rates to China either through T Mobile or by using some calling card?

Also in China does the I phones internet features and GPS work? I understand I might have to find a McDonalds to use it but it would be handy. I await the answer from the experts here.

[bTW - great thread - kudos to Original Poster!]

There are two features which don't work in unlocked iPhones (really only one, but I'll explain):

    1. Voice Dialing. Exclusive to AT&T users.

    2. Firmware 1.1 and prior issues... but seeing how one can setup at 2.2.1, it's not an issue.

One can use the built in WIFI just like it's a computer... No data plan needed.

3G supposely is faster, but the 3G is getting alot of complaints on it's battery; and not just concerning 3G; it seems to simply hold the power less, and recharging more. Since Apple made the battery a soldier connection, a user cannot just change it out. There were lawsuits about it but not sure it went anywhere. The 3G has the GPS but I've heard the google maps is better... I recommend staying away from 3G.

Unlocking the iPhone has never been easier. In the beginning, it was very technically difficult and easy to mess up the phone. Now it is quite easy, if you can find the correct instructions... which are not surprisingly not easy to find. So you can unlock the phone and having it working on T-Mobile (or any sim accepting phone, including in china) and connect to WIFI without data plans...

Plans for calls and texting have to be referred to your provider. But a calling card will be the best route for the phone. Texting is about .40 a message.

I assume all features work in china as here. I do not have a 3G to be able to directly comment on experience. I have read that the GPS works in other countries (I'll admit, I've only read about it in other western countries); but one snag; apparently, if your unlock firmware is 2.1 or higher, many report the GPS as not working.

As with most issues concerning unlocked and jailbroken iPhones, there are dozens of groups attempting to overcome any problem encountered and often these phones can do more than regular iPhones. Example: Hackers had developed apps to record video and send pictures through texting before the regular iPhone could...

I have recently purchased an iphone and would love to unlock it, could i impose you to pass on the instructions on how to do so?

    thanks much!

  7. I have a quick question for those who have transfered money from US to china via wire transfer. We are trying to figure out what we would need from Bank of china Account holder in order to make this happen.

I know we need the following information:

    1. account number

    2. account name

what else do we need to get from china construction bank in order for us to do a transfer from BofA.

    thanks all.

  8. Hi all, time for another dumb question from me :D

When I make my first trip to China this December I will be going to see my SO in Shenzhen. I would also like to see Hong Kong while I am there. I have heard I will need a multi entry Visa for this, and I have heard I will NOT need a multi entry Visa for this. I will be staying in Shenzhen, but also wish to make a trip or two to Hong Kong. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks in advance!

    Appaullo

I believe you will need a Multi Visa if you wish to come and go between HK and Shenzen. Plus i think they are the same price anyways.

    Have fun on your trip.

  9. were they suppose to stamp her chinese passport with something?

unless she did this without us knowing....

They never took our i-94 nor her EAD, and they didnt stamp her passport with anything. Just gave us a piece of paper stating that we past and should receive our GC in few weeks. Maybe its different per states...dont know...just speculating.

  10. We arrived in plenty of time at the Orlando service center or whatever it is called. Our names were called and we walked into the back room for our interview. Wo de tai tai said good morning to the woman who called our names and we got back a blank look and she said nothing.

We get back to her desk and sit down and was told to stand back up and raise your right hand. Do you swear to tell the truth? Wo de TaiTai; Yes¡ me; Yes¡ ¡°I mean I do¡± I said.

"So where did you 2 meet" she said. I said ¡°internet¡±. She gave an obvious ¡°humph¡± breathing threw her nose, at this point I knew we were in trouble. Her lips didn¡¯t unglue from the pursed position they were in for the rest of the interview. For some reason she was very angry at us. Let me see your visa approval letter she said, I said I don¡¯t know if we have that with us. TaiTai said that was not on the list of items that were asked for. She said well let me see the original i-94 I said we don¡¯t have that either, because we went back to China in May and they took it, I said I can show you the AP letter of approval letter. She said I don¡¯t need to see that. How long have you been married? I said 2 years, another ¡°humph¡± Let me see your W2 forms for the last 2 years and your employment letter. Got it¡ here you are.

Then she said ok give me everything you have to prove she lives with you for the last 2 years. I said we have health insurance, car insurance, bank accounts she said is that it? for 2 years thats all you have? how about rent. I said we don¡¯t rent and I purchased the home before she arrived I would have to complete another closing package and pay another 6000 in order to get her name on the mortgage. TaiTai was getting nervous at this point and she said I have plenty of nice pictures for you to see with dates to show. The woman said I don¡¯t need to see your pictures. I said to her ¡°what other items would you like to see than¡± she said, don¡¯t talk to me in that tone of voice. I said I¡¯m not talking to you in any tone of voice I just want to know what we need to bring the next time we come. She said who said you are going to come back. Do you have any other questions? She said something like you should receive your green card in the mail after the check has been approved. i said Check? She said don¡¯t ask me when you will receive the card and it¡¯s our business when this gets approved. She handed TaiTai back her social security and kept her EAD.

I think we are going to need to make another info pass appointment, I was just happy we got out of there alive. :cheering: So I guess it¡¯s good news. :clapping:

Sorry Guz to hear this. I noticed the same thing. When we went I noticed how unemotional they are and detached and they arent friendly at all. Luckily for us we were able to make our officer laugh and that helped a bit. Hopefully its a speedy GC!

  11. Has anyone applied for a Chinese visa recently? My understanding is that you need airline tickets and hotel reservations for tourist visas. However, for those visiting friends and family, hotel reservations are not required and it suggests providing a "certificate of kinship".

So for those married to a Chinese, would it suffice to show a marriage certificate and a copy of the spouse's Chinese passport?

    Thank you for any suggestions.

I just went down to the Chinese Embassy in person and filled for a visa this past monday. They didnt ask for any plane tickets or itinerary. Im suppose to pick up my passport and visa tomorrow. So maybe just bring your plane tickets and such. Of course this was in Downtown LA and I have 2 prior chinese visas which are all expired :-( Damn it all, why are they so expensive..

    good luck!

  12. There's no reason why they would either take it or not take it, except as a courtesy to her so she has her EAD card until the green card arrives.

Taking the EAD before the green card arrives would leave her without a US government ID.

Thats why i thought as well and at least she has her ID till then.

    Thanks everyone.

  13. We got approved to get our 2 year green card today, but the officer never took my SO's EAD card or her i-94. He did give us a slip with a date and stamp stating that we passed and that we should receive the G/C in 20 days.

Is this common practice? I heard other officers cut up the cards and take the i-94 if one is approved. Im not worried, just wondering.

    thanks everyone.

  14. The way you dress is part of the overall impression you make.

In Chicago I'd wear a sport coat for sure and maybe even a tie. Wife may want to wear a modest dress or nice slacks and a blouse.

Sure people pass in jeans but there's no downside to dressing up a little bit.

Okay, I didnt think it would hurt to look nice. Ours is in downtown LA oh yeah!

    Thanks everyone for your input.
