  1. Get the requires immunizations at a local public health clinic where they are often free or low cost. Normally she needs MMR (measles, mumps, & rubella), Varicella (chicken pox), and tetanus.

Look up civil surgeons on the USCIS website and shop around by telephone until you find one that will do the I-693a vaccination supplement for $50 or less.

They will seal the supplement in an envelope and give you a copy. The sealed envelope is submitted with your I-485.

Many civil surgeons will tell you that she needs a complete physical at hundreds of dollars cost. Don't believe them and check out the threads referenced above for more info.

You are right about the health dept. After being quoted prices of excess $400.00 for shots and completed form, I called the health dept. and we go tomorrow for her first round of shots.....Cost? Nothing!!!!

  2. Robert ... look at paragraph 8, page 4 of the 485 instructions. This is what Dan quoted and you download the instructions at the URL he gave you.

The I-693 was in the sealed package they took when she entered the US. You need to have the 693 supplement which just deals with immunizations. The Civil Surgeon will fill it out, give you a copy, seal the original in an envelope and give you the sealed envelope. You submit the sealed envelope with the 485 package.

O.K. I'm catching on! I just found and copied the instructions to prove that another exam is not neccessary. However....I filed for AOS in July and we are now doing the vaccinations and biometrics next week. Do I mail the I-693 supplement as a follow up to the AOS application? Our AOS application was received but the supplement was not requested.

The biometrics (photo and fingerprints) are not at all related to the vaccinations.

I would get the I-693 supplement in the sealed envelope and just hang on to it.

You may get an RFE notice asking for it ... in that case submit it.

You may go to the interview without the lack of vaccinations ever being mentioned. In that case have it with you in case it is asked for.

If no one ever asks for it I'd be tempted just to leave it sealed and keep it in your files.

Sounds like a good game plan....Thanks

  4. AOS only requires a full medical if the medical for the K-Visa interview was more than a year ago.

If less than a year all you need is a vaccination supplement done by a civil surgeon.

From I-485 instructions page 4, this applies to all K-Visas, the directions have not been updated to include K-3/4.

If you are a K-1 fiance(e) or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the non immigrant fiance(e) visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your adjustment of status application.

I was very firm with the civil surgeon and took the I-485 instructions and pointed at the direction that just a supplement is needed, he did the supplement for $35 treated the case as a refugee case.

The civil surgeon that I contacted stated that if I bring him documentation showing that another exam is not required he will sign the I-693 supplement. Where can I find this? I downloaded the I-485 but can not locate this wording.

  5. Limei and I filed for AOS the end of July. We have received receipt notice and biometrics appointment in Buffalo for next week. We did not apply for AP or EAD. I am now pursuing her vaccinations and I-693. I contacted a civil surgeon yesterday and they will do the exam, vaccinations and the I-693 form for $460.00. The question that I have is Limei had a physical exam as required in Guangzhou prior to her interview (k-1). Is this examination valid for the I-693 as it was just completed in May of this year? Anything else we have to prepare for prior to the AOS or is it now a waiting game? Thanks for the help! Rob & Limei

Medical examinations are valid for more than one year after the date performed. Seems like it was an odd number like 14 or 15 months. In any event, it's at least one year. Additionally, you do NOT need the i-693, as it was already done in China. You need only the I-693 supplement for vaccination. The trick is finding a civil surgeon willing to do that. Most will, when you bring that to their attention.

Thanks for the response. Today the local health dept. scheduled us for Limei's vaccinations for next Thursday. They informed us that a second round of vaccinations will be conducted in a month. No charge for these. Question now is if the I-693 was already completed in China at the time of her exam where is this form or where can it be located? Do I have to provide it or just the supplement? Once the civil surgeon completes these forms should I forward them to AOS?

  7. I just asked Limei about Chinese valentines and she said that it is not real. A fictional old love story recognized on July 7. Because of the lunar calendar this year July 7th is August 19.

Robert, please tell Limei that I want the points for extra effort so I sent roses anyway.

I just told her...she says you are so romantic...."thanks, I think I better buy some roses now"!!!

  8. Ling doesn't like cold water or anything cold any time of the month.

The same here, Curt. My wife drinks nothing but warm water all her life! That's amazing to hear! I love telling the nurses this when they ask initial questions about my wife at a doctor's appointment. I like seeing the look on their face!...lol!

They ask the routine questions; does she smoke?- I say NO; does she consume caffine?- I say NO, she hasn't even drank a coke! only water! The look I get from this is priceless!...

Yes, Ling won't touch soda of any kind either. "CO2 takes away bones"....

She likes American fresh milk but won't drink it until it's been properly heated. Hot water is her primary drink--will rarely even touch tea-- "bad for blood"....

Limei is the same attitude about soda pop. She believes that it deteriorates the bones.

  9. Congratulations on your marriage, Robert.

No, there really isn't anything set in stone on when to file AOS after arrival and marriage but the USCIS leaves it to the good faith of the applicant to file in a timely manner. The IO will certainly question an applicant during the appointment on any tardiness.

If money is any incentive to file then you better hurry up! Fees go up in about 11 days!

    -good luck

Can I get done what needs to be done in 11 days? Don't I have to find a civil surgeon or something? I hate stress to save a few dollars! Actually we want to take a week trip to Va. to start exploring for a new homestead. What if we just hire you to manage the process for us?????? I hate paperwork to! Reason why we used an agency for the K-1 process. Although that was a ripoff!!

  10. Well, Limei has been here since June 6th. Since then she has gotten her ss# and we were married last Saturday. I presume that the next stage is AOS. Is there a time frame that we must meet? ie: When we must start application proceedings. Is there anything else that we are suppose to be doing? I would hate to screw things up now! Is this process a pain in the butt. Is it simple enough to do on our own or should I have an attorney overseeing the process?

  11. Well, I just asked Limei if she thinks the U.S. is boring. She stated that if I went to work everyday and she was alone at home then yes she would be bored.Becauase we are spending every moment together she loves her new life. She came from Guangzhou and is now living on a 60 acre country home. She enjoys everything we do. Working in the garden, mowing the yard walking in the woods or down the dirt road in the evening. Going shopping or fishing. We have no schedule, just whatever is desired at the moment. I guess we are living a lifestyle and a pretty private one. We both enjoy it! I'm a "lucky guy"!

  12. Hi All,

It has been a little while since I have been on CFL. Is there a culture difference in the way Chinese and US couples show love. I meet Lilike on line and it has seemed to be going on good, but every so often we get derailed by her saying she does not totally believe that I love her. She was married before and from what I know, her ex lied to her about how he felt for her.

We have not been able to meet face to face yet and she does not want to trust all I say until this happens. Any thoughts on this and what do you think I should do. I am worried that we are doomed and don't want another fail relationship. One divorce is enough for me and I can't handle another one.

I agree with you that one divorce is enough for anyone. After my divorce I stayed single for 26 years. She says that she does not want to trust everything you say until you get a chance to meet in person. I think she is wise. If you are communicating then she has the "interest" in a relationship with you but until you meet and spend time together how do you know if you love each other. This is not cultural...this is two people both hopefully desiring the same interest in life and who have both been thru one divorce. I would think that you would be more concerned if having never met she was telling you that she loved you and wanted to marry you. Meeting that someone special on line is only one way of meeting someone with hopefully the same interests as you. After that the development of the relationship is fueled by each other and I believe that this requires time spent together. Just my thoughts...Good Luck!

  13. When I would visit Limei in Guangzhou, She lived on the 8th floor. Sometimes "goofing around I would jump up and down in the elevator. She would always say "NO..Not safe". I would laugh and jump again..She would say "I"M SERIOUS". Now she has read Daniels post and experience and is telling me "See I told you". "WHEW"!!!! :D
