Yes - you would need a computer connected to the Internet - plus the iTalkBB box connected to a phone line - not exactly portable Thanks Randy, I had thought you had to be "connected" with it's resulting added on fees to ITalkbb, but wasn't certain. That would NEVER fit into my lifestyle. Being tied to a computer would never work for me, even if ITalkbb paid me $50 a month to use their service...this ol' boy needs his "freedom" from a computer. Maybe in a few years down the road, if the visa goons let us live in america. tsap seui italkbb actually have a service called italkfreedom, which you can use your mobile phone to make calls to China. I think it cost around $15 for 2000 minutes/month. After that will be 2 cents/minute. Now they run a promotion for Chinese Spring Festival: if you sign up global plan you will get this free for one year. Pretty good deal. I would say.

As some may know, in addition to the China local number, italkbb has added Hong Kong and Taiwan local number (these two will cost $4.99/m plus one time activation fee of $14.99). If I remember it right, they are waiver the activation fee for Taiwan number if you sign up before 9/30. We have used italkbb for more than two years and we love it. italkbb is a VoIP phone service that a lot of the members at this forum to use to call their wife/girlfriend in China. The price is very good for around $21/month, you can have unlimited call to China. I think the most attractive feature, is the Chinese call back number they provide, which let your wife/girlfriend call your US number at local Chinese rate (of course, you can always call her back so it won't cost anything for her) For those haven't sign up this service, I just receive a promotion email from them. It says every new sign up will get extra credit based on the the total Gold medal Chinese team (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) will get during the 2008 Olympics. So if the Chinese team get more than 30 gold metal, you will get more than $30. You can also easily find more promotion code online with around another $15-25 saving. There should be a lot of free English lessons for new immigrant. or for better result, put the boy to some intensive English course,but it will cost some money.
