  1. Greetings CFL'ers.

It's been a long time since I felt the need to ask for advice, or for moral support, from you all. If I had asked for your input last summer, maybe this situation could have been averted. :( Anyway...

So, last August (2012) I mailed out the I-751 form for my wife and stepdaughter to finally receive their 10 year green cards. I was seeing bright light at the end of the multi-year tunnel, and I smugly sat back in my chair and congratulated myself. We waited...

Finally, last week a letter from USCIS appears in the mailbox. It did not contain the long awaited 10 year green cards. It contained an I-797E, a letter describing the RFE, and a return envelope. What did I do wrong!

The salient point in the RFE explanation letter is as follows: "...the evidence is dated shortly before the application was submitted and does not support the bona fides for the length of the marriage."

This is the list of evidence that I submitted with the I-751:

    • Copies of the passports and green cards of Lixin and Ni .
    • Copies of the Social Security cards of Lixin and Ni .
    • Transcript of 2011 federal joint tax return of Kris and Lixin.
    • Transcript of 2011 federal tax return of Ni
    • Copies of drivers license for Lixin, and Learners Permit for Ni.
    • Copies of Visa cards and debit cards for joint Credit Union account.
    • Copy of latest joint saving/checking account of Kris and Lixin (Credit Union)
    • Copy of latest joint saving account of Kris and Lixin (Bank)
    • Copy of latest joint saving account of Kris and Ni (Credit Union)
    • Copy of loan agreement for purchase of a vehicle in 2011.
    • Copy of Fidelity 401(K) Beneficiary Summary and Account Summary showing Lixin as my beneficiary.
    • Copies of our Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance cards showing a joint policy.
    • Copy of Ni final student grade report for school year 2011-12.
    • Copies of a few photos of us, from the last two years.

As I have been writing this, it becomes clearer to me that I focused more on the period of time that was covered by the original green cards. But we were only married for about six months before the green cards came. There is not a whole lot of evidence to provide from before the green cards arrived.

We are feeling pretty low right now. Hope that someone can give us some suggestions...

    Kris and Rachel

  2. I'm not sure if this would be relevant to your case, but you may want to include some select photos, showing your son and you together from infancy to the present.

We got 'blue slipped' for not having these kinds of photos at our GUZ interview last Fall.

Edit: make sure that you write the date taken, location, and names of people shown, on the back of each photo

  3. I think most everyone is pretty much on target. Except, be it known that Hong Kong is by far the most expensive.

Also, when you're in any of these large cities, like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and so forth, just know that you will pay more for things if you hang around the laowai districts.

Don't try to do the negotiating yourself for things. If you go to expensive tourist areas, then you will pay more. As soon as you get out of the tourist districts, all prices fall right back in line with most everywhere else in China.

    Oh yeah,

    Beijing/Peking Duck

    Mutianyu for the Great Wall

    Hutong area

    Dancing girls

    Massage parlors

    Street food

Mutianyu is a fantastic place. And if your driver takes the backroads to get there, it's even better!

Yeah Yeah, you probably spent all your time at Maggie's bar. c'mon admit it

Not ALL :D :P :sosad: of my time...I had my 70 year old Father with me!

  5. Photo of a 1763 Chinese map of the world, claiming to be a reproduction of a 1418 map made from Zheng He's voyages. Discovered by Lui Gang in 2005.

If you haven't read the book 1421: The Year China Discovered the World, by Gavin Menzies, I highly recommend it. Absolutely fascinating, and it makes me sad that so much history has been lost.

  6. After screwing up a couple of things, Rong and both her children have all got their green cards now....Rong's came a couple of months ago, and the childrens both arrived today (had a RFE to deal with)....no job on the horizon for Rong yet as she needs to get her drivers liscence first.....she was however very helpful on the farm this fall and after riding with me in the combine during bean harvest and paying close attention to what I was doing, she ran the combine for almost all the corn harvest, 300+ acres by herself!...

I think that this is about the coolest thing I've read at CFL!!!

All of my best to you, and yours!

  7. It doesn't make sense to keep passengers in seats one hr before landing. What about other time? A terrorist can detonate a bomb any time in the air. Extra screening at check in makes more sense.

NO sarcasm intended whatsoever to you Tony, as I agree with you about the initial screening...why the hell let the bomb material on the plane to begin with.

Soon to come from your friendly airlines.....

Please arrive at your departure airport 6 hours before your flight. Each passenger will under go am INTENSIVE strip search to include deep penetration cavity check. Please wear clean underwear and thoroughly wash your ass and private parts....a squirt of an expensive cologne on your private parts would be welcome.

NO CARRY ON BAGGAGE ALLOWED, to include women's purses and men's "European Travel Bags".

Please enjoy your flight with us, we appreaciate your business and the look at your equipment.

And there will STILL be lamebrains that can't do their job!

  8. Congratulations-what wonderful news! Doesn't it feel great to finally see an end to all the waiting?

As Tom Petty says, "The waiting is the hardest part."

Mr. Petty is a wise man. And yes, it does feel good! The beginning is near!

This whole process actually started in November 2008, when my company recalled me to the USA, one year early.

  9. CONGRATULATIONS!

After all that waiting, it is great to see that you were able to get the visas! Best wishes for your new lives together. I believe you will get to be in China for the Spring Festival! (Chinese New Year falls on February 14, I think!) Have a great time, it will be wonderful to have them with you!

That was always the plan. Now it's a reality! I love to be in China, for the Spring Festival.

  10. Finally! Rachel's, and Jenny's, visa are in their hands!

Rachel went into the Consulate on Tuesday (12/08) afternoon, to present the call-in letter and passports. She was instructed to come back on Wednesday afternoon, where they gave her the Pink Slip, and she made arrangements for the passports to be delivered to the Post Office by EMS. She picked up the package on Friday morning, and flew back home on Friday afternoon.

Rachel spent four nights in Guangzhou, and the poor girl was absolutely bored to tears.

The plan now is for me to fly to Shanghai on February 12th, spend a week with the family, :D then the three of us will fly to the US on February 20.

:happy2: It's a 10 week countdown, until Lao Po and Ni Ni Tou are finally here! It's time to end this year long separation! :happy2:

  11. VO...Why did he divorce the woman from Russia?

    Na...Gave correct answer

    VO...my god

Na...This is letter explaining divorce from her.

    VO...I do not need it.

That got their attention! You must've had a rough time Robert. Sorry about that, but you have a new and wonderful life to look forward to.

Congratulations, Merry Christmas, and the best of luck to you both!!!

  12. Good news!!! Rachel received the call-in letter today. The Visas are approved!!!

She flies to Guangzhou on Monday!!! Hooray!!! :D

Man, that was a fast resolve! Great news, congratulations!!

I have to tell you, I was 'scared to death' that they would come back with a DNA test requirement. The last three weeks have been difficult to get through.

But now, we are back on track for US entry, after the CNY!!! :yahoo:

Thanks to everyone, for your good wishes!

  13. I would echo people who say not to reschedule. If you cannot make it, you cannot make it. Another point to note is that if you do reschedule, it may be close to the Chinese New Year. Trust me, you do not want to be traveling at that time within China (if your wife is not from Guangzhou she will be using train/plane to get there). When we traveled a week before Chinese New Year, I had a panic attack because there were just so many people in the train...couldn't even walk to the bathroom. So for that reason, as well, I would not want to risk rescheduling it and getting a date very close to Chinese New Year.

I couldn't agree with xiaofeizhu more. Chinese New Year is a travelers nightmare!

Additionally, if you don't like the price of air tickets at Christmas, you won't like the price at New Year, either...

I would like to offer a different perspective.......examine your conscience. Sure it will be expensive but you can always get more money but you can't go back after it is done.

Personally, I would have walked through fire, to be with Rachel at the interview (glad I didn't have to do that!). I am not wealthy, far from it, but I accepted the costs of this endeavour without a thought. I can only speak for myself, Louis, and would not want project myself onto you, but I would not delay something that is so important, and I would be there for her.

Good luck, to the both of you!
