Thanks so much for your comment in which i agree seems logical. But the 6 months minimum requirement should be valid to where she had last lived in using which china ID( i assume you are saying that a person can have many china ID'S depending on where she had lived and had obtained an ID from that city).
Yeah, My wife got her police certificates where she lived. She says all that stuff is transferred with her Hukou. So where ever her Hukou is, that is where she needs to go to get her police certificates.
Unless she has lived outside of China that is.

It seems that once a VO gets "blue slip" on the brain, that everything else is blocked out, and all he is thinking is what hoops he can give you to jump through. I have no idea why he wouldn't spend even a couple of minutes to try and understand the situation.
A shame it happened to you, but, like others have said, it should be an easy overcome.

Congratulations to you both! My wife is also named Fang. One word of advice for her... be prepared to be called "fang" as in the tooth variety *SHUDDER*. My wife has since changed the spelling of her name to Fong to reduce at least most of the confusion.
This has quickly become one of my big pet peeves!

After your fiancee/wife arrived in the US, what were her plans? Did she want to stay home and be a housewife? Did she want to go to school or get a job? If she got a job, what kind of job did she get?

I feel your pain Hank. I am in a region on NC where there are alot of people from elsewhere in the US. They all say that Fang speaks better English that the native North Carolinians

We have completed everything successfully. Our Employment Authorization Document was submitted (with check cashed by USCIS) over 2 1/2 months ago, and still has not been approved.
This is extremely frustrating.
My wife has been in the U.S. for 6 months, and she still cannot:
Legally drive
Open a bank account
Legally work
We are in the same situation. We got here in the beginning of May. She got one of those Social Security cards with "Valid for Employment Only...". She went for her Learner's Permit tests which she passed only to find out that. on the past friday, the North Carolina legislature passed a law requiring that she have an EAD card.

My fiancee has her social security card marked "Valid for employment only with DHS Authorization". She took her tests for a DMV learner's permit which she passed but the DMV officer said that a new law was passed this past friday requiring people to get a document from DHS showing dates of employment. I called around DHS and talked to someone who obviously wasnt the brightest bulb in the box and couldnt understand what I was trying to explain to her and she said that I had to wait until we got married. Does anyone know anything about this or has anyone heard anything about this? Is this a federal law or another example of screwed up backwards legisation from the great state of North Carolina?
This is outrageous! Yet another example of how the governement is making it harder for people that are trying to do things the right way and easier for those to come into the country illegally. I should have told my fiancee to change her name to Consuela and fly into Mexico City then walk across the border. Then they would have rolled out the red carpet for her then.

Another resource for your SOs learning and practicing English... I am told that alot of libraries in China have "English Corner". It is where a bunch of Chinese people get together and practice English. They are usually attended by an English professor or maybe even a native speaker. I know Guangzhou library downtown has one that meets every Sunday.

I'm not sure if this is proper or not but I thought I would offer it to you or more specifically your Chinese SOs. My Fang has been writing in her blog during much of the process and about our journey together and her experiences. One thing I have noticed is that there is alot of bad information being spread around about the visa process among the Chinese SOs. This blog might clear up alot of the misconceptions people have. The few I have heard who tried assets alone never passed the financial aspect.. and were denied at GUZ... but that does not mean that your case is like theirs; it will depend on the financial picture and VO discretion. As a K1, they might not take as hard a look either; the cases I am aware of were CR1, where the interview doubles as consular adjustment; so not really a 'apples to apples' comparison.
I would much rather know how many successfully did he put through GUZ on assets like this? (I would not compare GUZ to any other sucessful filings at consulates around the world).
One doesn't need a lawyer to be successful but experience in your exact situation is extremely helpful.

In case you havent seen my other post, we passed the interview. Fang said that the VO asked for the I-134 which she seemed to look over very carefully, but she did not raise any questions about it. So either I got lucky or assets are ok

Reading stories like this makes me think that the statement "America - The Land of the Free," is becoming less true each and every day.
Don't get me wrong, I love our country, but laws like these have the potential of eroding all for which we stand.
I love the idea of America... too bad it is not in practice anymore. Everytime I hear someone say how thankful they are to live in a "free country like America" I have to :cough: America is no longer free... its a corporate dictatorship

I wouldn't call getting a co-sponsor as simple as possible. $0 income I would think would be VERY bad news.
What are you living on? Do you have readily accessible cash? Are you living off of that, or do your assets generate cash income? If so, report the cash and the assets you are using to generate cash. You have enough, and you do NOT need a co-sponsor.
I answered the questions exactly like you did (although do have a job), and didn't under-report anything.
Yeah, I draw an "allowance" generated from the interest of my investments. this allowance allows me to live comfortably. If I ever need more cash, I only have to call my financial advisor and he can send me whatever I need. This "allowance" is reflected in my investment portfolio that I have included with my I-134

Get a co-sponsor, the co-sponsor has to show as being above the line, not you, you can show a I-134 with no assets. You are working too hard at this.
I am a firm believer of keeping it as simple as possible when it comes to the I-134.
My attorney who has successfully processed over 300 k1 visas has assured me that there will be no problem with it. Anyway it is too late to get a cosponsor before our interview in 1 week.

I have a little different situation. On my I-134, I almost exclusively listed my assets because my income income is almost nil (Got laid off from my job and havent gone back, mainly so I can spend extended periods of time with my sweetie). My assets (house, car, investments) put me well above the poverty level at almost 7 figures. For evidence, I have included the required tax transcripts, letter from my bank stating all the required information, copy of recent investment portfolios showing values, copy of deed to the house with recent tax bill showing value, and copy of vehicle tax bill showing its value.
I will let you know how it goes.

She said that the doctors were extremely rude and condescending towards her. It first started when she called to see when she could come in to have the exam. They told her that she should come in at 8am because it can take many hours. She told them that she couldnt come in the morning because she has to work. Now she lives and works in GZ and knows where the hospital is and where she should go. When she told them this, they told her that if she comes in the afternoon that if she does not complete the exam then she might have to do it again another time. She decided to take her chance and go this afternoon.
So she goes in the door and the doctors were very rude and condescending over the smallest things. For example, she was supposed to give him 4 pieces of paper and she accidentally only gave him 3. He then yelled at her "What's the matter with you?! You are supposed to have 4 sheets..." So she found the fourth sheet and he grabbed it out of her hand. Needless to say this was making her even more nervous and humiliated. She said the staff was very unfriendly as a whole.
I guess in medical school in China, a good bedside manner is not taught nor is service with a smile. I dont know about other hospitals, but at least in the 1st Hospital of Guangzhou, tell your SO's to prepare for military style boot camp.
Oh and as a side note, it only took her just over 2 hours to complete -
I, too, had a very positive experience going to ACH a week before Curt. The VO was very pleasant and took time to look over our P4 paperwork which she said "looked good". She also made sure that I knew that she entered a note in our record that I requested additional paperwork.
I highly recommend going to an ACH. If for no other reason, than peace of mind. You get to see that the VO's are real people who really do want to help.

I've been to Brazil several times. Buffet style and the waiters will bring fresh cooked meat in skewers. The restaurants in Brazil will place an wooden hourglass shaped piece on the table. Half is green and half red. When the red half is on top the waiters will not come to your table. It give you the opportunity to chat or have drinks without being disturbed. The waiters will only come to your table to serve you when you flip the hourglass shaped piece on green. Really cool! How good was the food?
Ack! Sorry for the spam... The food was excellent and the atmosphere was like a party...lots of fun. The band really was good and they got the audience involved. I had a blast... Fang's parents are coming in for Hubei in April and we are taking them there.
They did not have any hourglass type thing that I could see so they kept coming to the table. But overall it was alot of fun... I had a great time.

Buon Giornoa? I tend to notice the Chinese name instead so I'm not sure where it is. I've heard that the "Milano" is good, but I don't care for Italian food. Guess I had too much pizza when I was travelling in Italy now I don't care for pizza either. lol
If you like French cuisine, La Seine is great. It's at the Er Sha Island. Banana Leaf's thai food is not bad. There are loads of dining options in GZ.

Yes... well Fang and I went to Buon Giornoa tonight for dinner. I am not sure of the Chinese name but it is right above the McDonalds near the 6th Street Restaurant. Very disappointing. Fang ordered Minestrone Soup. What she got looked like dish water with some vegetables in it. She said it tasted very bland and not "special" at all. I had the lasagne bolognese and later I felt like I had swallowed cement, luckily we had some Wang Lao-ji tea back at her apartment.
Definitely do not recommend Buon Giornoa. However, we went to Milano when I was here over the summer. Milano had a real nice atmosphere the food was decent. If you really want Italian food while in Guangzhou, I would recommend Milano over Buon Giornoa. Milano is by the Friendship store across from the Garden Hotel. -
My colleagues and I often go to macau street restaurant.
It's about 10 mins walk from our office. But we prefer the "Lemon House" (Yue Ming Yuan) Vietnam restaurant at "Jian She Liu Ma Lu", about 5 mins walk from the "Latina" brazilian BBQ place. Yummmmm...We tried to go to Macau Street but it was packed! So we went to Latina instead. Fang and I will have to check it out. I also have seen the sign for Lemon House and want to try that also. Have you ever been to the Italian restaurant "Buon Giornoa"? Fang loves Italian food and was thinking about taking her there tonight. Last summer when I was in GZ the frst time, we went to this little side street that Fang calls "The Pizza Street". It is off of the same Jian She Liu Ma Lu and had a couple really good pizza places there... when I went there again a couple weeks ago, I found there is only one pizza place there and it looks like a couple of the other cafes closed down too. The best pizza place (Cin Cin I think it was called) is no longer there... It was run by a Portugese guy and had fantastic pizza including a Gong Bao Ji Ding pizza that was wonderful.

Honestly, she may be better off. Medical care in this country is a joke. Doctors are either too afraid or too greedy to actually fix anything. If a doctor actually tries to fix something he is running the risk of getting sued if the slightest thing goes wrong... either that or you won't come keep coming back and paying therefore he cant afford that new mercedes every year.
But that is another rant...
