  1. I'll update this

It worked out really well. We both flew to chicago and landed in terminalk 2. her deaparture flight to Hong kong was also in terminal 2 so it was really good. I could see her get on the plane and take off.

Now I just need to worry about when she comes back. I will fly to chicago the moning she comes back and wait for her at terminal 5 I guess and we can both take the transit bus back over to terminal 2 to fly back to little rock

  2. Yes, we are both flying into ohare from little rock. So it sounds like i can take her to her gate and her connecting flight when we arrive

I will fly back to lit the next morning.

When she comes back I will aslo fly to chicago and then we will both take the connecting flight back. When she comes back it sounds like I need to wait for her outside the customs area in the internatioanl terminal

  3. You will not be alowed to enter the baggage area, your wife will need to claim her bags and pass through customs, before you will see her. The luggage carts are free in the international terminal, that is the only good news I can give you. Most of the workers are very nice and polite, and they are usually very quick. I have never had to connect to another flight, so I can't help with that. If there is nothing declared on the customs form, many are passed through without inspection, and they are mainly looking for contraband. We had 12 KG of tea and a few other things, and there were no questions asked. Good Luck, and don't worry, Mike and Yizhen

by the way, cell phones don't work in the Immigration/Customs/Baggage area, so you will be waiting in silence. Calls can be placed when you first leave the plane, but once you go down the escalator towards the Immigration/Customs/Baggage, the phone signal drops.

What about when she leaves for China, will I be able to accompany her to her chicagoe to China connection, we will both arrive from Little Rock then she will catch a plnae to china and I will spend the night

  4. My wife is leaving for a visit to China and coming back in January

I'm worried about her trip back in January when she comes through the international terminal at O'hare

I am meeting her in chicago and then we will both catch the same plane back to LR

What I want to know is if I can get in terminal 5(international arrivals) and wait for her when she picks up baggage ?

Anybody have clue on this ?

  5. I have seen this happen before with step children and my sisters husband had to put up with tons of crap.

    Here is just my thought.

You have to establish the fact you have limits and boundaries that can't be crossed. Even if this means the termination of your relationship.

Once they get crossed there is no going back. You have to let them know this behavior is not acceptable to you as is your right to do so.

  6. The first job my lady had here was as a private Chinese tutor. She posted some ads on Craigslist and replied to some ads in her College's job board. We are both students, and now she works part time as a hostess at a Chinese Buffet. To get that job, she went to all the Chinese joints in town. She applied to those that were the most popular and seemed to be busy.

What kind of money is she naking at the chinese buffet?

My wife has been checking those things out as well whenever we go to one. The waitresses seem to pull in 2 grand a month(10 bucks a day with tips) but work 6 days a week 10 or 12 hours a day.

  7. I found my wife a job as a housekeepr at a summer lodge in the country. It is a temporary summer job.

I set the whole thing up with the manager and told them I was looking for a postive work experience as her first job so even if she didn't like the job or they didn't like her she could get over the fright of working in America, and that was the most important thing(no bad experiences with co workers, no bad neighborhoods etc ).

I told my wife she could quit at the drop of hat or even on the same day if she wanted. I tell her this all the time

So far three months have passed and she thinks its a very hard job for little money but gets along great with the other girls and boss. They love her.

The first six months in america she stayed at home and went to a school to study english. She was getting bored

Its a summer job so it ends in September

  8. We are married and her Green card has her marred name on it as does all of her American documents.

After talking to a Friend she is worried about what happens when she returns to China. Her Chinese passport has her maiden name and her green card has her married name.

You can her new name added to the passport at the chinese consulate.

Can you do this by mail or an agency? any suggestions

  9. My so brought this device that hooks to my usb port that will allow her to write chinese characters on a keypad. I am looking for instructions in english.

All I can make out is the brand name 'whales' and qq/msn on a bright yellow button.

It is basically just a writing pad where a person can write chinese character with a light pen and it show up.

Anybody know anything about it ?

  10. She is coming over 10/31 on her K-1 visa and I want to be sure we get whatever we might need in China if she has not already got it in prep for the SSN application and AOS later

So far besides the I-94 we get when we arrive at the POE she just needs

*Birth Certificate and verbatim (wordfor word) certified translation

Anything else ? Does she really need the birth certificate since she had to show for the Visa?

  11. I finally got more detail about her interview. She has been in Gungzhou until today. Her is her email to me. Apparently they asked more than 3 questions. I will copy and paste the email.

Hello! When i passed interview, i want to tell you the news soon, i forgot how hungry and thirsty i was at that time, i thought official will meet me in time, i think interview just need more than ten minutes, so i had a small bread at 6 am, my brother, sister-in-law and my aunt accompany me to go there, i went to consulate before 7:15, i saw more than hundred of people, they stand in a line and wait for entering, in fact they all :interview at 7:15 to 8:00, and company cannot leave there, i got board of entering after an hour, and enter building 5, i cannot go out once i enter, and cannot use cell phone, i started to stand in line and submit paper, press fingerprint and swear, i waited for 6 hours, i hear my serial number and name till 1 pm.

At that time i felt so hungry and thirsty, i sat in hall, i saw so many people cannot get visa, because they don't have enough paper, i felt so nervous, the official asked me : where does your fiance live? What's his name? What's his job? How did you know each other? How did you communicate? Can you speak English? If your fiance can speak Chinese? If you have his tax roll? If you have letters and photos? What will you do in America? If you will study English? The official pointed a photos of you and my family and let me say who are they?

I answer all the questions honestly, and give all the letters to official, he said we have many letters, he used 7 minutes to see our photos and letters, then he took out a red paper, he said you can see your finace in America, i felt so happy and surprised, then i said thanks, then i handled some paperwork, because after interview, i can get visa and passport after three days, i can pass the hardship smoothly, thank you for your support and your heart of loving me, thanks to Peter to the help of his staff, so i can pass interview.

Well, close for now, happy weekend!

  12. Congratulations!

    And do you speak chinese???:)

Almost as good as she speaks english. Not very much.

I have almost finished Pimsleur 2 and have a feeling I will do much better next time I am in china. Last time we had this little machine she would write on and it would translate to english. Frustrating

I think the question was phrased how do we communicate. She had a stack of about 150 emails she showed the guy and they were cool with that. That seemed to be ok
