  1. Hello All

On 3/7/2008 we had an interview for AOS in Los Angeles, and passed.

I thank you fellow members of CFL for the helps and suggestions. Without you, I am not ever sure how I could had done this complicated and time comsuning process.

The interview itself took only 10 minutes, but we had to wait for 2 hours and 30 minutes in the waiting room.

Now......a bad news.... THE NAME CHECKING

We had to wait for the name checking to be completed to receive the GC..... ahahhahaa.......Another waiting.

    Thank you again

  2. Hello All

We came back to the mainland China now ( In Sanya, experiencing Chinese Hawaii without Diamond Head )

On September 3, we will be heading back to Hong Kong for the flight for Los Angeles. I will be writing more about U.S. Visa on Chinese passport matters at boarder crossing from the mainland China to Hong Kong, and at Hong Kong International Airport, and the port of entry at the LAX.

  3. Hello All

On 8/27, we had the interview, and she passed.

I found the big differences between Hong Kong interview and Guangzhou interview. ( as far as Guangzhou interview, I know only from this site )

My paperworks were so complete, they did not ask any questions nor additional back-up informations I had with me.

However, since we had only three other couples with us for the afternoon interview, and I do not think they were for K-3, the interviewer had enough time to compare the informations they had with the paperworks I handed out to them.

The interviewer even did not ask me any question and I was asked tobe seated, but, my wife was asked very few questions:

    1. How we met

    2. Age differnces

    3. Communication methods

    4. My previous divorces

The pre-interview by non-U.S. interviewer, which was done by the local staff member of the consulate was in the detail, but very helpful and tried to listen to my wife's answers very carefully. It looked like that she was the one who can make some degree of the decision.

Then, U.S. staff came to ask my wife almost same questions again, and the interview was done with approval.

I will write more in the detail of the interview and my analysis for the difference between Hong Kong and Guanzhou interview later.

  4. I figured the process and processing time in the US might be the same, but once it got to Hong Kong as opposed to Guangzhou, it would be faster. It appears from the above responses that there are advantages to getting married in Hong Kong with a speedier visa process, an interview where both parties (or in the case of a family) all can attend the interview. It also appears that the Hong Kong US Consulate is a little more responsive when it comes to questions.

As to the second part of my original question, how hard or easy is it for a Chinese national to obtain a permit to go to Hong Kong for marriage and returning for an interview?

If a Hong Kong based marriage route/visa is indeed viable, perhaps it can be promoted here on CFL a little more and as an option with details in the FAQ section. I know nothing about the Hong Kong process, so my ramblings could be all wrong.

Thanks David for you various scenarios.

    As aye,

    Jim

    Hello SinoTexas

What I know about how hard or easy for a Chinese national to obtain a permit to go to Hong Kong is depend on where she lives.

For instance, my wife ( Guangxi resident ) must apply a permit with using a local travel agent. The actual permit is issued by the her local government ( I will check in the detail on this with her ). The most of the time, it takes one week to get a permit stamp on her so called domestic passport. ( Not the one for an international traveling passport). I think she must submit a bond to the travel agent so that the travel agent is sure of her return.

And, I heard about there are different regulations apply for residents of cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and other big cities.

And also some Chinese nationals have multiple permit good for 6 months, even one year.

Anyway, my wife must join the small group of the Chinese travelers at the Lohu (Lofu ??) crossing point in Shenzhen to cross Chinese immigration check point together with the group. This arrangement is done by the same travel agent which she used to get a permit.

Once she is done with Chinese immigration section, she can get separated from the group to go through Hong Kong immigration section.

When she is going back to the Mainland, she must use same crossing point of Lohu, but she does not have to join the group any more.

Once she obtain the U.S. visa, she can use any crossing points between the Mainland and Hong Kong to take a flight to U.S. from Hong Kong.

  5. Hello

I got married in Hong Kong, and she is from mainland.

    Not so good:

Getting married in Hong Kong was more time consuming process compared with doing so in mainland.

    Same:

Processing applications with U.S. agencies in U.S. side is same as far as the methods and time.

    Good:

Once you have your application with U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong, it appears to be very fast and very helpfull.

    May be same:

Wife must travel to Hong Kong for medical and interview, but, she either way must travel to Guangzhou..... so that, it may be same.

    Good:

    Being interviewed together.

    Very good:

If you have questions to ask them, they will e-mail answers back in 2 days or so............very helpfull.

    Very very good:

If you want to attend the interview, you can control the interview date when you calling them to set up the interview date.

    Good:

Traveling expenses can be lower as long as going to Hong Kong.....just one flight from California here I am.

  6. We are K-3 also, and I did receive a letter from NVC. It said that they had received my approved I-129F and that it was forwarded to GUZ. It came 2 weeks after the approval date and less than 1 week from the actual approval letter. It had my wifes name and the GUZ Case Number, along with the USCIS receipt number. I hope this helps, Mike & Zhen

    Hello Mike

I finally got NVC to assign HNK number for K-3 today !!!!!!!! :P

And, please take a look at my signatue section. I started listing all the documents preparation progress.

  7. I will take a slightly different perspective than the others have taken. I was married before to another girl from Asia and wished I had signed a prenup with her. (She was not Chinese).

First of all, your bride-to-be is coming to a new country and there is a rather big unknown associated with this. My ex changed dramatically after she came to the USA, and sadly this had an impact on the reasons for divorce. She a number of problems that didn't surface until after we were married. Also, it didn't help that she got close to a number of bitter divorcees who had married and came to the US, and were living comfortably on their divorce settlements.

Second of all, I was only slightly older than my ex, but very different in terms of our earning abilities. I was made painfully aware of this in divorce court how contribution into the marriage matters very little.

I have confidence that many women are not like my ex. Most women in China want love, not an escape from a bad previous life in her country like my ex wanted.

Prenups can be written in many different ways, and they are not "all or nothing" papers.

First, there can be a sunset clause in them; for example, saying that after 10 years of marriage, the prenup conditions are null and void. Or they can be removed in a gradual way.

Second, they can be written to protect your assets coming in to the marriage, not the assets you accumulate. So it gives you incentive to get rich together.

Third, they can protect assets you may want to pass on to your children from a previous marriage.

I know there will be others to disagree with my advice. It is a very uncomfortable subject to bring up. My SO offered to sign a prenup after seeing the pain involved with my divorce; this made me see that what she wanted in the relationship for the right reasons. I am not sure if we will eventually sign one, but her offer to sign one made me see that she is genuine.

    Hello I love Sunshine

    I agree with your opinion.

I wrote up a prenup. I explained to my wife about the purpose of the prenup is. The first, she had very difficult time to understand the concept of the prenup. However, after we checked a line by a line of contents of the prenup, she understood well.

Her impression of the prenup was that, mainly, to make sure of financial position of the starting point of the new life together.

  10. Another little thing is to register with the local consluate whenever you are in China. Doesn't matter if it is Shanghai or Shenyang. You can even do it online. Leave a record that you are there. It will be available to GUZ at interview time.

ACH is a very good way, also.

    Hello donahso

I check with GUZ consulate website, but, I can not find the way to register inter-net with them.

Please advice me how to register with them on inter-net.

    Thank you

  11. I Yea going to the ACH and being there in GZ for the interview will

help a bunch. But the VO's dont always work every Friday.

The day I was there, this bunch was out on the Golf Course at 2.30pm.

    Bobby....

    Ohhhhh, No.

    I can not believe !!!!!

Please someone give me answers for my 3 questions !!!

    Thank you

  12. Attending ACH is a wise decision, good face. If that means anything.

Although, there are too many other factors, ACH or no ACH.

Bonified Relationship. ACH does show involvement, as does interview day, and trips to China.

and so on. This is my belief.

But, not required, in terms of many cases.

I did not attend ACH, but rather spoke to a Consulate Officer in Guanzhou in Citizens Services who had prior work experience in the IV Unit. I was logged as visiting the Consulate. The response was informative, but not a conclusive one.

You walk into China, they know. ;)

Hello yuan fen for the reply.

Actually, I am thinking about documeting attending ACH for content of "evolution of relationship", and when I am handing out my passport to my wife when she has an interview,

so that VO can read it. (I hope VO will read it. Hahahahhahah)

    Hello donahso

Please could you explain more on this..... register with the local consulate. Does it work with HKG consulate too ???

    Thank you

  14. Hello All

I have been receiving lots of valuable advices and informations on different topics from members of CFL. And, I thank you all of you.

So far, I found that attending ACH is one of the most important action I can take. (Beside preparing enough doecumentations)

Now, I have three questions about attending ACH.

    1. The timing. I believe attending should be after assignment of GUZ # ????

(If I do not have this #, then, GUZ can not record my attendance ??)

    2. Since, members of CFL have been educating me so well, I may not have too much of questions to ask at the ACH. (Technical aspects wise). Hahahahhahhah. In this case, is it possilbe for me to show GUZ my all the documents , and to have GUZ to verify adequacy of documents ????

    3. Who I will be talking with at the ACH. Is this person actually VO ??

    Thank you
