  1. Not suprised at all. ;)

Not at all. About five years ago, I was on a business trip in Shanghai. I had the TV in my hotel room tuned to CNN Asian while I was reading over some files. All of a sudden, I heard the words "Taiwan" and "independence" coming from the tube. It was a story about some demonstration in Taiwan against the mainland government. I was shocked that the story was allowed to air. Just as I was thinking that maybe the government has relaxed the media rules, the screen went blank. On the late night rerun of the same program, the entire story was blacked out. I guess someone was a sleep at the switch for about 30 seconds the first time. Hope he didn't get into any trouble...

  2. Maybe you should send in the rebuttal before the paperwork gets back to the States. After all, the letter said "should you, the petitioner, or your attorey have any questions concerning your case, make a request in writing to the CIS office where your petition was originally filed." It didn't say that you have to wait until the file gets back to them...

  3. Pink it is...

I got some details from Jas:

The VO was a black man, middle aged.

The whole thing took 3 to 4 minutes and went something like this:

VO: I see you've been to the States before.

    J: Yes, I studied there.

VO: What school did you go to?

    J: I went to XXX.

VO: So did you live with your fiance when you were in the States?

    J: No. We lived separately.

VO: Do you have his tax forms?

J: I already handed in his 2007 tax return. You have it right there. Here is his employment letter and the 2008 pay stubs.

[VO took the letter, looked at it and the tax return for quite a while.]

VO: What company does your fiance work for?

J: Ahh, I forgot the name. But he works in XXXX.

VO: Is it a big multinational company?

    J: No, it's a medium sized company.

VO: Have you met his parents?

J: Yes, I have, many times, while I was in the States.

VO: What kind of work do they do?

J: One is a XXX, the other is a XXX.

    VO: Okay, everything looks good.

And with that, she got the pink slip.

I want to thank everyone who has been so patient with me during this whole process. And I'm sure I will be bugging you guys more in the future as we continue down this road States-side.

Jas also wanted me to mention that she highly recommends the Jianguo Hotel, where she stayed the night before the interview. It is a four star hotel, beautiful and immaculately clean, and two minutes walk from the consulate. It is a little expensive, but it is very comfortable and the staff is great. They even upgraded her to an executive room for free.

  4. Mark - did you ditch Hui or is this another one or is this for Hui ?

Fess up, tell us whats a goin on? or am I confused? There was some lass that was getting her child into a school in LA...

    Warmest Regards..

Well, I didn't want to say anything since I don't know the guy, but combining GF and K3 in the same sentence had me a bit confused. Maybe his GF is married to some other USC while he has a very understanding wife...

    Hey Jon,

No confusion ... he and his GF are probably discussing future alternatives ... you know ... K1 or K3 :) I know Mark, he's doing it right and taking things one step at a time

    Have a terrific day!

    Bob

    My apologies to Mark. :)

  6. I often can't even answer that kind of questions about myself - for those "password reminder" questions, I started using the same 6 character answer no matter what the question was.

Best way to handle these is to just remain cool, calm, and confident and have some kind of a response.

Yes, that's what I'm trying to prepare her for, so she doesn't get flustered if they ask a strange question.

  7. We are doing some last minute preparations for the interview and I'm wondering if it's better to make up answers to unexpected/odd questions such as "What is his favorite professional sports team?" or "What is his first grade math teacher's name?" (completely made up questions, but you get the idea), or if it's better to just calmly say, "You know, we never really talked about this. It just never came up in our years of conversation. I guess there are still some things I will learn about him when I join him in the States."

  8. Yes the color is blue.. so I guess we can say we are singing the blues. At least we are singing.. Blue is better than white ...right? And this is for fiance visa.. Thanks for asking. I will fill whatever form they need.. I felt confident we had done everything needed. Hopefully this will be resolved quickly.. Hope all is well.. Jim

On this forum, blue is the color of hope. This gives you some time to shore up the finance issue rather than an outright white slip. As Randy said, if your income is above the poverty line, then just fill out the forms. Otherwise, it might be better to consider a co-sponsor. Hang in there, Jim.

I will not question your decision in this matter, since you know your wife the best and you are the one who has to live with her (and your decision). However, if your sister-in-law is doing this for "many Nanning women", it will happen again (your wife's attitude suggests that it has happened in the past), and you don't want to be caught in the middle again. You must ask them to not share your information with any future potential suitors.

THAT is a very good point and one that I shall take!

Glad I could be of some help in this morally ambiguous time

  10. Roger, can you tell me where you got the the info that the consulate is closed from the 23rd to the 28th? I just checked the official website, and it says it's closed from the 25th to the 28th...

Well, I got my info and 'copied' it directly from the GUZ website.

    http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/

Maybe they have two official websites ??? :D ;)

I just checked again, and it still says the same. Again, I did not type the data, I did a 'copy' and 'paste'.

They were closed a full week last year too, as I recall.

Looks like there are inconsistencies on the official website between here and here. :coolthumb:

Oh well, I tend to believe they will take the longer holiday, so I will prepare for that. This really throws a wrench in the whole plan. Oh well...

    Thanks!

    Jon

  11. My two cents, for whatever it's worth:

Dennis, no matter what you decide in this situation (and it looks like you have chosen the path of least resistance), you must extricate yourself from your sister-in-law's activities post haste.

BTW, for all of you who are implying that a 45 year old contacting a 22 year old girl in China may be playing another game, I would believe that if Dennis did not already mention that Al is nervous because it will be his first time out of the country. I think this guy may have real hopes, and may be more than simply disappointed when the truth is revealed. The danger is whether he will be incensed enough to do something about it, or just play along and enjoy a trip with a beautiful young girl. And if the former, would there be any legal consequences since he has your contact info?
