Hello all. Xiongxing and I had our AOS interview on Oct. 26 here in Las Vegas. I was nervous but not overly so. Nothing like how I felt in GUZ.
A guard met as at the door and took our appointment. letter. Then we passed through an airport security type system to the waiting area. Our appointment was for 10:30, we arrived about 10:15 and were called about 10:45. It was difficult to hear names being called, several people did not hear their names the first couple of times they were called. I was careful to listen closely and I did hear our names on the first call, but Xiongxing did not. A PA system would be useful here.
Our interviewer was very nice man about 60 years old. We had all the things asked for in the appointment letter, but we did not have any pictures. We don't wear wedding bands because Xiongxing said it was too expensive to purchase them. Also, we had discussed getting an interpreter, but again too expensive, so, no interpreter. I was a little worried that these might be a problem. But, since Xiongxing's arrival here, 'bie lang fei' has become my motto and mantra.
As we entered his office, he said to remain standing and raise our right hands to be sworn in. Xiongxing did not understand and sat down then saw that I was still standing and got up. Her English is improving but she is not ready to go solo yet.
She is very smart though, and keenly observant. Through the corner of her eye she would watch me and do what I did. He immediately asked for her passport and my driver's license and the I-94. He kept the I-94.The only questions he asked her were 'do you speak English?' A little. 'Any trouble with police?' No. That was all. His one concern was how to input the fact that Xiongxing does not know either of her birth parents names. This was the first time he had seen someone not know both parents names. She was abandoned at birth for being a girl. I am still not clear on how she came to live with the very wonderful elderly couple that raised her and I am not sure she knows either. But, he was able to get this done.
The rest of the interview was spent listening to him talk about his family and marriage and his travels through southeast Asia in his youth. He never asked for any pictures or anything other than the identification and I-94. All in all it was quite painless and lasted about 20 minutes. We should get the card in the mail in the next couple of weeks.
Now, time to relax a bit before removal of conditions. Xiongxing is taking ESL classes through the Clark County school district and is looking for a job. She spends much to much time alone and needs to get out more. She doesn¡¯t complain, but it is obvious that she would like to feel that she is contributing to the family income. Overall, we are happy and very glad that we have found each other. We look forward to the next adventure that life has in store for us and we wish everyone here the same happiness and enjoyment of life that we have together.

My wonderful Xiongxing just had her biometrics yesterday. They asked for the appointment letter and ID with her married name or a copy of the marriage certificate because we had sent our AOS packet with her married name. We only had her passport with her maiden name and an expired state ID with her married name. They accepted the state ID but I am not sure if the realized that it had expired.

Hello all. My sweetie will be making the trip here to the U.S. without me
Unfortunately, I can't afford to go get her. I know she is very nervous about this and I was hoping someone might be making this trip at the same time. She will leave CAN on April 17 at 9:00 p.m. on China Southern. If anyone is traveling at this time, could I prevail upon you to lend a helping hand, should she need one? Effective January 1, 2009, we will no longer have the panel physician facilities collect any immigrant visa documents other than the medical exam forms. Please bring all documents required to the consulate on the day when you come for interview. Thanks!

The hospital in Beijing is telling Weiwei that as of Jan 1 they no longer take any forms but the medical forms and everything else she just brings to the consulate. They told her to only bring passport, visa photos, appointment letter, and the medical forms. So NO DS 156, 156K, 157, supplemental forms or bank receipt.
Are others at this point in the process getting the same story?
The hospital is also telling her if she doesn't get immunizations they won't give a "healthy card" and she could have problems at China exit or US entry without it. Are they trying to make a buck on the shots?

As for the vaccinations, Xiongxing didn't get them. She did her medical in Guangzhou. We will get all the shots in USA.

It just looks like a passport and says on it CERTIFICATE OF HEALTH EXAMINATION FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLER . Even has a photo in it. Basically it transcribes all your all clear info from the medical exam into this little passport sized book. Takes them about 10 minutes to make it up.
Ying read on 001 that you need it for college if you want to enroll, that you don't ever need it and that customs looks for it. So all sorts of conflicting info.
Any ideas or information about this will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry shadeOgray, it's the usual granite slab beds. I threw all the blankets I could get on top then just used one blanket for cover. It helped, a little.

UPDATE:
We have been staying in one of the Yang's apartments for two days now, and I must say it is great. Certainly not a 5 star hotel, but comfortable beds, two bedroms, a kitchen and a bathroom - with HOT WATER in the shower!
I am VERY happy with the experience. Mr. Yang has been very nice to myself and my fiancee. He has helped us print some papers on his computer, and he even took my Huixian to the hospital the first day before I arrived.
All in all, it has helped relieve a great deal of tension from an already stressful situation.
I am very glad we chose to stay here.
Oh - and nothing has come up missing from our room, and we have two laptops and other electonics left here.
I am really, REALLY thankful for the recommendation to stay here. I would suggest it to anyone and everyone else.

Hello all. I have to agree with the above statement. Xiongxing and I have been staying at one of the Yang's apartments (even sounds like the same apt.) since Jan. 4 and will be leaving as soon as Xiongxing's visa arrives at the Post Office. If your looking for major frills and breakfast in bed, then, no, you might not like it here. But, if you're looking for a very comfortable, affordable and convenient place, I think you will be happy with Mr. Yang. I liked having someone who has seen many applications go over what we had. Even though we didn't make any changes, I felt better. Mr. Yang let me use his computer to print some things and was always very gracious and helpful, even when Xiongxing somehow locked herself in the kitchen and couldn't get out.

It was a shutout today for CFL vs the Consulate Monster! In heated action today on the consulate home field, our intrepid CFL team, today consisting of the Batmaniac and wolvie and led by their co-team captains Ying and Xiongxing, pulled out perhaps the greatest upset in recent times. It was both exciting and horrifying at the same time. The excitement was provided our beautiful and dynamic co-captains as they easily overcame impossible odds to humiliate the overwhelmingly favored Consulate Monster team with grace, power and finesse. The obviously out matched Monster provided the horror with a showing that was slow, clumsy and inept in all phases of the contest. Phone this one in folks, it's the CFL'ers all the way!!!!

Thanks for the response everyone, but, I realized that I shouldn't have opened this thread soon after I did. It says in the LETTER TO K1/K2 APPLICANTS they want two copies in English and two copies in Chinese for the DS-156 and two copies in English and two copies in Chinese for the DS-157. So, we'll give them all they want. I agree with why not give them all they ask for or more. Thanks again and wish us a very PINK morning!

Hello fellow CFLers! Xiongxing will have her K1 interview on Jan 8. I will leave for GUZ Friday. I will attend ACH Monday. Just saw that an appointment is necessary for the notary. I looked up the appointment schedule and they are already booked for the whole week, so I will get things notarized here.
I have a couple of questions that I hope someone might have some ideas about. As for the evolution of relationship letter, is it best to just stick to basic facts or maybe go into a little more about feelings and what Xiongxing means to me? Is there somewhere near the consulate to print pictures we will take before the interview?
Any extra ideas or advice will be greatly appreciated. CFL has been a godsend for us and we both feel guardedly optimistic and as prepared as I think we can be.

Thanks for the fast reply Rob & Jin. Our visa type is K1. I will be in Guangzhou Jan 4 with Xiongxing. Hopefully, it will be a pink new year.

Hello again CFL! I read in the 'kitchen sink' thread about this: Receipt for the paid immigration fee. I am not sure what this is. Again, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Xionxing will have her interview on Jan 8. We both feel guardedly confident because of the information and help we have received here. Thank you all, once again, for your kindness and help.

Thank you all for your help, encouragement and information. I guess I just have to be more patient. As much as I want Eve and I to be together now, she does need time to learn English. I know she is very worried about that and this gives her time to be able to relax and learn at her own pace. I agree that once the process is completed, hindsight will be with rose colored glasses.

I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of help and concern from all of you. The links provided have been of great help. Eve, my sweet intended, is trying to get the needed papers. If she needs help, I will forward this information to her. I thank you all.
My only regret in all of this is that I did not learn until much too late that Trigg would be my brother-in-law. It was very nearly a deal breaker, but, Eve is much too great a prize to give up, even at such a high cost.....
Are Chinese Consulates still conducting mobile passport renewal?

How did you get the appointment? Where on the website did you see the mobile passport renewal? I can't seem to find any information on the San Francisco Consulate website and there is no way to get through on the phone. We are thinking of just going to San Francisco to walk in and see what we can do. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
