Vent Hood

Has anyone seen, maybe purchased, a vent hood like the one shown here?

Julia offers to cook on the deck. But the heat will get uncomfortable soon here in Central Texas.

 

I've seen these on the web, but I want to buy it in person, so I can judge the quality.

 

I'm willing to drive to Houston. We're going there this weekend to shop around in the Chinatown area around Bellaire boulevard.

For Chinese cooking look for large intake, good grease filter and heavy duty motor.

 

You might also check out the yellow pages for used restaurant equipment. A small stainless steel hood there might be reasonable and they are much better than the residential models.

Our kitchen came with a weak (in my opinion) Rangeaire 30" model, with a 6 inch updraft to the outside.

 

So I'm looking to find a direct replacement. The models I've seen so far would fit the bill; but I want try one in the store before we buy.

Make sure your fan is compatable with your exhaust, you said you had 6", it doesn't make any difference how big the fan is if you can't move the air out

We just installed this one Tuesday and it works pretty good, the flex duct will restrict the air-flow a little but we are only running it around 6ft so it should not be that bad..

I don't see a CFM rating. I solved the problem by buying as GE miro-hood with a 300 CFM rating.

 

There is a vent shop at Bellaire @ Ranchester. It is the same plaza that has the Welcome Market. We shop there all the time. It is around the 9200-9400 block of Bellaire.

I didn't see your post until this evening; we're already back.

 

We got a nice vent hood at the store you described, after having a couple of models demonstrated for us.

 

We got the San Yang Pai CY-968, stainless steel version. The main new feature compared to others is that the main components can be disassembled for cleaning.

 

Then we hung out at a book store that had been closed on the previous visit.

 

We went to Hong Kong City mall and walked around for a while. This was our second visit together; my third.

 

I still didn't find the 'newer' mall after driving around a while. Maybe I went the wrong direction on Bellaire. Next time maybe...

 

I'm going to install the vent hood in the morning. I'll let you folks know how things turn out.

that is exactly the vent hood I recently bought and installed in my new house.... Yeah, lots of nice features, and REALLY moves the air... My recollection is about 550 CFM (both fans on full) but of course, you can use just one (over the burner you're using) and hi/lo setting... for a combination of setttings... Purchased locally at Home Depot for under $200.00 ......

I looked at the local Home Depot and Lowe's before making that trip. I would have had it in weeks ago. We started talking about it months before we came.

 

 

But she's very pleased. Whether or not the flue can handle the full rated CFM, it has to be much better than that teeny-weeny fan of the original unit: two big turbines without filter mesh in the way.

 

I do wish it had a flue damper; I can always feel the draft during cold spells.
