I went thru the same thing. All the major banks like Citi and BOA only deals in corporate accounts I was told. Even checked to see if an account could be open in HK to serve our purpose. It was a no-go all the way around.

It turned out to be an exercise in futility.........

This subject has been hashed around here before. Some good ideas but nothing worked out for us. Actually, it worked itself out at the end, and for the better.

My wife got a good exchange rate on her yuans. Alot better than the 8.3.

And taking it thru customs wasn't bad at all.
