Having lived in NYC for a dozen years, it was a prerequisite! It was wall to wall people for a dozen blocks. No cars, just a solid wall of people everywhere all drinking and having a party! I did go back for the millenium and it was very different. Police barracades were set up to keep people out of the streets and people brought their lounge chairs for a good place to sit on the sidewalk on the morning of the 31st.!! The streets were all blocked off for emergency vehicles only. The closest we could get to seeing the ball was from about 1/4 mile away and even then we could only see it while crossing the street. Traffic was completely closed off between 6th and 8th avenues and from about 48th st to 36th st. Link to comment
