If so, are you notified?

 

Or just left hanging?

 

Does the security check include CFL postings?

Dont know of anyone failing - I think you would have to be a felon or on some government agency's wanted list to fail -

A few people have fallen into a black hole/time warp of many months for having a common name -

My fiancee said her Mandarin spelling of her name is

very common for both female and male.

 

Her Cantonese name is very feminine though.

 

Maybe we should educate the security folks.

 

Also I have 6 years as an Army grunt so my name should

come up.

It is due to the commonality of names among Chinese citizens that slows the process up for some. The Patriot Act of 2001 requires all IV issuing posts to perform a security check on all applicants. If there is a "hit" on a name, it must be cleared up before processing can continue, thus the reason for slow times.
