Iv been checking around for Air Fair myself and have found out that a round trip ticket is cheaper than a one way ticket... even from China to America---when you only intend to go one way... I may look into this more to bring my wife here from Gaungzhou...

Anybody buy E-Tickets for there SO from USA and have printed off over in China for them to use to come here????

Hello to all.

Again, I recommend getting these tickets in Person at a China Town agency.

There are at least 3 in Boston that can get you from Boston to Any City in China for under $800 and in NYC there are even cheaper deals to be had. It is all about the personal connections at these places, since they tend to work on bulk #'s of commissions, rather than size of commission. The place that I use gets only a $20 commission per total sale, so they are all about keeping our price low so that we always come back.

If you are close to NYC and want to fly from there, I am sure that I can pass you the information along (the only problem is that you have to pick up the ticket IN PERSON!)

The China Town in my town is only one square block big---so I don't think they will have a travel place...

pluse round trip last I check was 453.00 from Gaungzhou to Portland and back---My wife would only use it one way though.. Im just not sure about the e-ticket thing and how I will get it to her...

I thought with e-tickets all she has to do is go to the airport, show a photo ID, and she gets the ticket. Is that not the case? I am trying to schedule a flight for my fiancee the last week of December, think I'm going to have to pay at least 700-800 for HK to Seattle/Portland.

Be very careful with purchasing a RT ticket if you only will use a OW portion of the ticket. The airlines frown on this practice. If you do not fly the orginating portion of an itinerary, the airline will automatically void the return portion.

If you are doing this for a SO to fly from China to the USA, you must purchase the ticket in China. This is fairly easy if you don't need to connect to a domestic USA flight after POE. If you do need to connect, expect the price to go up accordingly. My recent experience with NWA was that the price of a RT booked in China was almost the same as paying for the OW in the states.

Also, airlines have the right to void FF miles on any tickets where the intended travel is not completed.

She would only be gong one way.. from china to Portland... as for the e-tickets---you print them out on your printer Iv been told and then take them to the airline desk at the airport...

I just ran one on

leaving Gaungzhou on Dec 13--return on Jan 30

RT is 415.00 one way is 665.00

only planning on using it one way...I can call up the airport for the return trip and cancel--just say she can't make it and ask if you can get a refund--all honest remarks..

Ghall,

We did nearly the same thing you will be doing, and everything went fine for us.

I bought my honey a round-trip ticket on Northwest airlines, from Beijing to Portland (Oregon), then back to Beijing. It was an e-ticket. Grand total price for this ticket was $362. This was last month. I accompanied her on this trip. There was no problem whatsoever with the e-ticket thing. All your honey will have to do is show up at the ticket counter and show her passport, that's it (although it helps to have a paper print-out of the receipt that gets emailed to you).

I got the $362 RT ticket using Expedia. Don't know if that fare is available anymore. I think that's a great price for a OW, unbelieveable for a RT (the cheapest RT ticket over the Pacific I've ver seen). FYI ... we booked the "return" portion (from Portland to Beijing) in April '05 on the hope that we might be able to return to China for a quick visit back home.

Hope this info helps in your descision.

I'm afraid those rates have gone bye-bye, at least for the end of December...

Iv seen some 411.00 prices for RT. from Gaungzhou to Portland--guess I'll go back and do some more reading...

Thanks

The only suggestion I have for ETickets is to be SURE you have seats assigned. A few times (usually with United) I have gotten ETickets but seats are not assigned. Then you get to the airport and cannot get seats assigned at the kiosk...you must wait to get back to wear boarding is at. And, once you get back there you find out the flight is oversold. Bottom line...always demand seat assignments.

I just bought my tickets thru Asian Pacific Travel in Seattle WA. My ticket only cost about $650. Her one-way ticket cost about $1100 (Yes, I could have gotten a little cheaper if she bought it in China. But I wanted the assurance that we would be seated together on the same flight). And, this place handles my Visa also so I don't have to waste 1 or 2 days driving back and forth to Chicago.

This time our POE will be Minneapolis. I have never been thru that airport before. Usually I go via LAX.

My Wife just called China Air and got a quote for RT ticket from Gaungzhou to Portland Ore for 390.24. You can not get anything from there web site at least I couldn't. No refund and this is booked through NWA.. I will have her get these after her interview date--hope the price is not to much higher..

I can't believe how cheap this is... no wonder the airlines are in trouble..

I considered having Fei shop for a round trip ticket from GZ to Portland and back, just to use the first half.... and I'm probably being paranoid, about this......but the last time I went through SFO Customs (11-2002) from China, the officer was asking everyone in line (citizens and greencards) --- and there were A LOT of greencards to see their airline ticket information from the flight they just got off of...

Probably a dozen parties in front of me and he singled out three for more questions (in the back room) One guy started protesting even before he got up to the window that San Francisco was his final destination.. Yup, as soon as the officer saw his ticket, he told him to go with the waiting customs officer for further questions... The elderly Chinese couple directly in front of me in line were entering in SFO as a connection to Canada, and the customs officer told them they would have to wait in a designated area, and be escorted to the gate at the boarding time..

Based on that experience, I thought it might not be a good idea to book a round trip ticket for an SO that was supposed to be coming to America for marriage, and a minimum stay of two years...... Kinda' red flags we don't need..... particularly on the last leg of a very long journey~!!!
