How did you study for citizenship test?

Recommended Posts

I have just started putting together my package to apply for citizenship. Maybe because I printed out the forms, for some reason I just received an ad email from usimmigration.us with a link to purchase some dvd to guide you how to pass the test and interview:

I am just wondering how did everyone study for the test. There are tons of book and dvds on amazon also.

Recommendations?

My wife used an app on iPhone and iPad. Many times I would sit with her and go through all the questions with her using the app.

USCIS offers one here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/uscis-civics-test-study-tools/id1216824613?mt=8

There are many online free resources.

USCIS being a good source: https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learners/study-test

A Chinese guide, again from USCIS: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/nativedocuments/M-618_c.pdf

Really you do not need to pay for study guides, USCIS provides everything.

Also, many topics covering this here: http://candleforlove.com/forums/forum/37-citizenship-process/

Many apps for android too: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.gordons.uscitizenship2011Edition&hl=en

My wife did 3 things

1) downloaded audio of all 100 questions onto iPhone

2) converted the form questions and answers into audio files

3) attended an English class specialized on citizenship test

Since it took 12 months from scheduling the interview to actually having the interview, she had plenty of time to listen to all the audio in the car while driving.

My daughter and I also got the pleasure of listening to it for a year. She just passed the test in December

  • 7 months later...

Granted it was nearly 10 years ago for my wife, but because I had a dual Major of History and Social Sciences (specialties of Diplomatic & Military history and Poli-sci) the first time through, my wife read me the questions and answers to which I first gave her the answer, that at her request the historical background to the answer.
