Ctrip, Cheapoair and travel sites

Recommended Posts

Hi. Happi News Years to you all!! I am looking for a flight (one-way) between Xian and Nanning. Normally I use Cheapoair but for some reason access to that site is denied when I am Xian. So I am looking at flights on Ctrip. A few years ago I have used that site for internal Chinese flight and also for flights within Asia. The site is in English and is easy enough to get around but I have some questions. Why are there different prices for the same flight? (economy class, discount deal, priority deal, special deal, etc..),The dollar amounts is very small but there are no explanation what one get for those few extra dollars. The other question that I have is It says that a ticket is issued with 2 or 3 hours after payment is made. Where do I get the ticket? Do I have to go a special counter at the airport, or to a travel agency or can I just show up at the airport and get a ticket when I check in for my flight (this is the way I normally do it with Cheapoair). Any ideas? Thanks. Danb

If you do it online, and give your email address, you get the ticket usually through email. All you have to do is print it out and you have everything you need.

I have been there though where you don't have a ticket thru email and you have little time to even check with the boarding people. I went to one of the kiosks when I started my Eurostar trip across the Channel, scanned my passport, and voila, there it was. I printed it out and used it for boarding.

You may have to be proactive and check the site periodically. And you can always try and call them. Often they have English speaking agents to help.

My wife books her domestic China ticket from here in the US using her Chinese SIM card within her phone. Then, she uses her Chinese based credit card to buy the ticket. The wait from online purchase to ticket confirmation is fast, very fast (her words.) You must reply to the confirmation message to confirm and allow the use of your credit card. They will send this to your phone. Save the confirmation message they send you. If you cannot confirm the purchase will not take place.

In fact, she bought 3 tickets from Ctrip for Xian to Nanning this summer of 2017. Nothing different about any seat on any plane she or I know of inside China. Pay more or pay less. Unlikely they will assign (allow) a foreigner an exit seat, anyway.

She has, occasionally, received e-mails but doesn't use them. Neither of us has received a real ticket by e-mail for years. Only the confirmation number and flight details. The e-mail will have a ticket number on it.

To pick up the ticket, she gives them the flight confirmation number and her name (or passport) at the check-in counter for the flight in question. She has done this for years.

In the old days, before she had a separate Chinese Sim card or, on the rare chance she doesn't have any phone signal in China when she buys the ticket, she is unable to complete the purchase. Then she asks family for or friends for help with the purchase.

She has used Ctrip or the Airlines' sites directly. Many, many times.

Thank You for the replies. I have a flight out of Xian on Guanxi Beibu Gulf Air. I have never flow them before. I came to Xian on Okay airlines. They were more than OK. My Lao Po's daughter made the reservation for me. Last night I was given an order number and a ticket number and they have my name. I hope that when I check in at the ticket counter that everything will be ok. Thanks for all the information guys. I will give an update later when I get to Nanning. BTW , there was light snow in Xian today. I haven't seen much snow in China. Thanks again. Danb
