Randy W
I posted these on Facebook, and have changed access to "public", so hopefully, you won't have any trouble seeing these. They are pictures I took in 2001 and 2004. Sunset from Pikes Peak on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1695513583814067.1073741859.100000663263693&type=1&l=65e0eb6ad3 I took these photos in 2001, when camping was still allowed on Pikes Peak. With a camping pass, you were allowed in the evening before the race (PPIHC - the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb) and allowed to stay over night. We drove up to the Devil's Playground at around 12, 780 ft., where I took these shots before getting some sleep before race day. You can see additional spectators who arrived the next morning working their way up the mountain. Edited September 2, 2021 by Randy W (see edit history) 3 Link to comment

PPIHC 2004 - Pikes Peak The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, or Race to the Sky, is the second longest running race in the U.S. - after the Indianapolis 500 - having first been run in 1916. The race was shortened in 2004 because of a winter storm - in late June - which rolled in, sending everyone for cover. Edited September 2, 2021 by Randy W (see edit history) 1 Link to comment
Allon
You got close to God's country, Randy. Just a little farther south and you would have found Her. The Sangre de Cristos. Rocks are named for the blood of Christ, since they are blood red. 'Miss Colorado, and Wyoming, and Montana, and.....the Annamese Cordillera.. 1 Link to comment
True Blue
Randy, Thanks for sharing the great pictures. It's one of those places that is on my bucket list. My father drove up Pike's Peak in the early 1960's while on a business trip to Colorado Springs. Apparently no "guard rails" and the road was gravelly back then making it a harrowing drive both up and down the mountain. I tried to go to Pikes Peak twice in the last decade and the weather would not allow it. My son in law and daughter were there several times and both times the weather would not allow it. I do remember going to the beautiful "Garden of the Gods" which is nearby and well worth visiting. One day I will get to Pikes Peak and visit Garden of the Gods again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_of_the_Gods http://www.gardenofgods.com/ https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g33364-d104029-Reviews-Garden_of_the_Gods-Colorado_Springs_El_Paso_County_Colorado.html Edited October 15, 2017 by True Blue (see edit history) 1 Link to comment
