Shanghai's 'most awesome nail house' is finally torn down after 14 years of blocking traffic

The former owner of this former "nail house," 87-year-old Xu Yongtao finally agreed to hand over his property earlier this month following a bitter battle which stretched on for years and years.

For his impressive display of stubbornness, Xu is set to receive a payout of 2.3 million yuan in cash along with four new apartments for his family. Xu's son-in-law told reporters that the family was getting old and had become tired of fighting the government.

Photos have gone viral on the Chinese internet showing the home being torn into by a pair of bulldozers and high-pressure water cannons.
