hi,

i am trying to submit my wife's I-751 to remove the conditional status, but i received back the application stating that she needs a copy of her I-551 card. We never received it and honestly i forgot that we needed to follow up with immigration if we did not receive it within a certain amount of time. The sheet that was given to us stated that the stamp in her visa book was good until we receive the temporary. How long will it take for me to get this card? Do we have to have it? Can i file for an extension to file the i-751?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Firstly, how long has she been in the states?

Secondly. did you pay the immigration fee when she arrived? This is required to get the green-card (I-551 card) if you paid this fee you should have gotten the card within a month or so after paying that fee. See ELIS http://candleforlove.com/forums/tags/forums/ELIS/

This is odd, been down this road before... Doing a search, looks like you prematurely asked about this back in November 2015 and I asked you the same question then "Did you pay the immigrant fee?"

Since you indicated then that your spouse entered the states 9/2/2015, you are still within the 90 days prior to needing to file the I-751.

One more note, if for some reason you did not pay the immigrant fee for the green-card, if you do so now you may get the card before the filing deadline for the I-751.

In my wife's case we filed the I-751 about 10 days prior to the filing deadline and had no issues.
