If approved for visa, how do we get home?

Recommended Posts

I'm about to submit our DS 260. My meaning is that we'll need to fly to Guangzhou for the interview, if all goes well and the visa is issued, how will we fly back to our current city, if the office keeps the passport? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

Other government ID such as Chinese National ID is sufficient to travel domestically.

If person is a foreign citizen, non Chinese, then explain this to the interviewing officer and they will allow keeping the passport and you can send it to the consulate via CITIC bank after returning to home city and they will then process it adding visa to it and returning it to you along with the immigration packet "Brown Envelope" via CITIC bank

ONLY the National ID can be used - okay maybe the passport would also work (but I think no) - for a Chinese citizen.

This topic covers the situation for a foreigner - http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/48819-how-to-leave-guangzhou-without-passport/

We had a lively discussion about this and my wife says this is incorrect: the passport is sufficient for a Chinese citizen to both purchase tickets and travel domestically.

She offers this link which attempts to refute erroneous online claims:

That's good to know, but it seems to be concerned mostly with returning overseas Chinese who have allowed their household registration and/or ID's to have lapsed. Someone who is applying for a visa at the Guangzhou consulate is more likely to be without a PASSPORT, but still have a valid ID.

I still say it's criminal of the consulate to keep passports (ANYONE's) for more than 24 hours.
