Conditional Green Card? What is it? How to remove condition?

Recommended Posts

A conditional green card is a 2 year card, the conditions being still in a bona fide marriage at the time it expires.

Firstly look at your green card, if it says under category "C1" or is only valid for 2 years then you file to remove conditions within 90 days before it expires by filing an I-751 form along with evidence of bona fide marriage to USCIS. Study topics tagged I-751

A conditional green card is only issued to a person married less than 2 years at the time green-card status is granted, for example a couple marries and then files for a spouse visa, if the visa is issued less than 2 years after marriage, the visa will be a CR-1 visa and upon entry to the USA, if prior to 2 years of marriage, results in a conditional green card. A friend of mine got a CR-1 visa, however the visa process took so long that she entered the USA after 2 years of marriage and did not get a conditional green-card, she got a 10 year permanent residence card instead, no conditions to remove.
