My wife is a Chinese citizen with a Chinese Passport and U.S. permanent resident. Does she need to apply for any visa when we go back to China to visit? Or can she get back into the U.S. with her permanent resident card alone.

Yes - the green card will do it, and is widely recognized, including by the airlines to get her on the plane.

Welcome to CFL.

No problems traveling with passport and green-card to and from China.

Only issues that sometimes come up:

  • Green-card is close to expiring (2 year conditional or 10 year card)
    • If 10 year card and I-90 application to renew is in process, may want to schedule an infopass and get an I-551 stamp in passport.
    • If 2 year card and I-751 is in process to remove conditions, make sure have a copy of the I-751 notice of action handy while traveling.
  • Green-card has a married name different that chinese passport, carry a copy of marriage certificate to show how name changed.
